I built in Dec 23 a PC for my son, who has just started to notice a bit of lag during gaming.
The only thing I can think is CPU throttling. He states that the FPS will not go above 120 anymore.

Spec is:
Asus Prime B550M-A WIFI II,
AMD Ryzen 5 5600 CPU with Wraith Stealth Fan,
Gigabyte Radeon RX 7800XT,
Cooler Master TD500 enclosure
Running Windows 11 Home

Games include.. Fortnite, Rainbow Six, Call of Duty Black Ops, Battlefield, GTA 5 to name a few.
I reached out to Asus but they weren’t very helpful.
All they said in that it needs to be Aura Sync compatible with 3 pin ARGB

I am looking at wanting to spend no more than £180 GBP
I was looking at the ROG STRIX LC III ARGB LCD
I like the look the LCD especially as I can keep an eye on the CPU temperature at least.

Any help would be appreciated
Kind regards

Before you go spending any money download and install HWInfo and run it before he starts gaming and leave it running. When he finishes gaming have a look at the still running program and you can see the max temps of just about everything in the pc to see if anything is throttling. There is no point in blowing money on something that you "hope" will fix his problem, it's better to know for sure then spend the money.

As Pastymuncher said

Don't spend money until you know
Theres an overheating problem first
That's not exactly a hot running processor
Would have to be the fan failed or thermal paste dried out
if temperature was ok before
but isnt now if thats what turns out to be
the issue

Plus
What fps did the same games reach before?
Could he have accidentally capped fps at 120 fps maximum?

That aio is expensive you could get a thermalright aio
For far less

You could just use various methods to display fps
In a corner of the monitor for free
Or use any old android device And set up a sensor panel on it
To display anything you want on it
Temps,fan speeds etc
Animation /video or a combination of both specs and
And animated background

@pastymuncher - Thank you for your advice in regard to the HWInfo program. That is absolutely amazing.. obviously there is so much info on that which I do not understand, but scrolling down and finding the temperatures and the Framerates is what I was looking for.
Funny.. I run the program and then started Fortnite and FPS was just over 300FPS......hmmmm I am thinking someone was hoping for Father Christmas to bring him a PC upgrade hahaha

@Mcnumpty2323 - thank you also for your input.. could you please tell me more about the using an old Android device method.. that sounds like a project I might try in the new year.

Theres multiple ways to do it
All ways i tried are free (if you can get aida64 free
With your motherboard etc)
Even with very old android devices
Oldest i tried is android 6 and works fine

Simplest way is pitikapp
Android client app
Windows server app
Graphics are pretty basic but a couple of minutes
And you have a sensor panel up and running very easy
To use this one

Next way
Aida64 and odosoft software
Bit more complicated but if you take time
You can make great Graphics

Last way
Spacedesk app and windows Spacedesk server
Can use aida64, sidebar diagnostics or other software
That reports hardware like hwinfo etc

Then can use lively wallpaper
To add an animated background behind the
Sensor panel hardware results

Works on android phones, tablets
One of my favourite devices is old lenovo yoga tab
Around £30 off ebay etc
10 inch screen you can either place inside pc
If got a glass side panel
Or externally as its got a great metal kickstand built in

You can either create a usb connection
Or a WiFi connection
Just depends where you situate the device
As need to charge it
So usually I just do a usb connection if I want the device on
All the time when the pc is on
So it charges off the pc usb

You can buy screens for this too
But most people have an old android phone laying around
So why not do it for free
