As per title, the alarm on the 172 is incredibly unreliable and has even gone off while I'm driving which was all too embarrassing, Renault reckon the alarm unit has gone like many they have seen before and wanted hundreds to fit a new standard alarm, (no thanks)

The reason for this apparently is the 172's came over without alarms fitted. Renault then realised they needed to comply with some insurance rules or some such in the UK and alarms were fitted on the cheap at the dockside. The downside of this was that most were not fitted or sealed properly leading to water eventually getting into the units causing them to eventually play havoc as the internals corroded over the years.

So I've decided I want to get a reliable alarm considering it's a pretty "hot" car. I've been recommended the Toad AI606 and have found a place that will do this for £200 all in fitted. Just wondering if anyone else has any other recommendations, the Toad retails at around just under £100. So looking at £100 on alarm and then the rest on fitting.
 
Every single alarm thread on here the Toad is recommended so doubt you're going to get any other recommendations.

I had the Toad Ai606 fitted last year and it's fab. Very reliable, hasn't done anything bad (yet!) and has plenty of options that can be added, like you said. I recommend it :)
 
Tom, im looking at getting a ai606 fitted in my 172 aswell.

is the place you found the one on auction site offering it for £205 fitted?
 
Check out the recent thread by Lum for my opinion on the Toad. Everything I've seen/heard about it is spot on.

£200 fitted is a pretty good price.
 
had a toad ai606 on my golf since 06. not a fualt on it once, ever

when it did get broken into, it did go off and scream and yell like youd expect

dont bother with dual prox IMO. get the knock sensors

And after that it isnt that much anyway , just to cover a bit of fuel costs etc .

No turbo timer option on the Toad?

Lack of love for Clifford here, I had cliffords fitted to my cars in the past, they worked great and I had the turbo timer option on my Civic with turbo conversion.
 
Mate ask him, he goes anywhere in the UK. St Davids is far further (in driving time) than Brighton.
 
Problem being is that I don't need a new alarm, just want a few accessories and to make sure its installed ok.

I'll mull it over - thanks for the heads up though.

I know hundreds of them which don't have Toad's fitted... Mainly because I fit Hornet Maxx 1's to them :D

Same Alarm, Different distributor. Cheaper than a Toad and Just as reliable.
 
Some of those options sound pretty awesome!

Wants just for the remote start (yeah I know its pretty old hat) but still wants.

Get a Clifford then. Toad don't do remote start very well. Cliffords Intellistart is probably the best remote start product on the market.
