Which AV Amp????

brilliant, its settling in nicely thanks :) SD picture hasnt changed though, its still very ropey:p i can forgive its lack of sharpness, that isnt a real issue but i know what the problem i had with it is now - its the color, its very posterized with sd feed. There's just a lack of depth to the colour which i couldnt pinpoint before. the old sony was still much better in that regard.

but still, i dont really care as my pz80 almost never sees anything other than 1080p

Ye that's the thing with 1080p Plasmas at 42"+. SD isn't that great at all but that's something that is no secret and its a known fact and i don't think Panasonic hide that fact. I've got virgin and sky fed into mine and although it isnt brilliant it is still more than watchable. I have to say Sky movie channels do look pretty damn good though.

The co lours will set in a little more after 1000hrs+. I would say allow it a few 1000hrs for it to totally settle.

I have turned my sharpness up a notch from the initial settings from the hdtest website and that helped.

Yep, they're excellent, my friend has one. It's a match for more expensive subs. I think that it's the same as a more expensive MJ ones as I believe that BK make them. There also hand made in England which is a plus point for me.

Yep they're made just down the road from my place. I bought a MJ sub about 5 years ago after hearing one at the Bristol show a few months earlier. After posting a pic of it on AV forums I got a PM from a bloke on there saying his firm made that sub & I could've bought direct from them for half the price! :( I sold the sub anyway to my mate & got the sub I've got now (Velodyne Deco.)

So Which sub do you guys?
Downward firing sub is what i need. Budget, well, around £200

Which center speaker?
Ideally want something that isnt large so i can get it on my AV shelf.
Budget, well, £100/200

Both must be in BLACK!
High gloss would be a bonus.

Cheers

I just purchased 2 amps. A Yamaha AX563 and an AX763. I have a Panasonic SAHE-70 which is basically 5.1 surround with an Active Subwoofer. I first replaced the Panasonic with the 563 and was pleased with the output but I wanted more because I was looking for output to 8 channels with full decoding.
This led me to the AX763 which decodes DTS-HD Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio. So far after recieving my extra 2 speakers I watched Dark City in DTS Master Audio which output via the surround decoder directly to a 7.1 setup. The PS3 decodes in LPCM which allows you to listen via HDMI to DTS Master Audio over a 7.1 setup. I have had my 563 a week now but I am considering selling it now because I am enjoying the sound of the 763.
But if you want a decent surround system for around £200 the 563 is good for what is. The Sony although has AV via HDMI uses Bitstream decoding whereas the yamaha supports PCM and offers you your own setup taylored to your own taste. You may find the higher models like the 763 and the Denon 606 offer you more fo a £100 more. I am still using my Panasonic speakers with the Active Subwoofer which alone may cost you as much as the AX763. You have to go as far as £500 for the next selection. It is here that the THX2 comes in with the AX 863 and the Onkyo or Denon. This range offers more sound clarity because you are taling of a different set of codecs and a different form of amplification. You will find the sony at Richer Sounds but it is a clearance bargain. I don't believe that they will be restocking this amp after this has sold out.
Whatever Amp you go for make sure you have a speaker set to go with it first. This eleviates the initial cost. I ended up buying 2 more speakers to make use of the 7.1 sound. I am only able to make use of it on a few at present. But that is what I got it for. I wanted to expand my sound and vision. I brought a new TV with the Cell processor built in for upscaling and decided to upgrade my Amp with it.

Don't get hung up on the downward firing subs only. You will rule out some nice sub £200 subs. Bass is pretty much non directional. In fact the only time I've heard where a sub is coming from was when it was cheap nasty one that was set to high up the frequency range. The 3 I mentioned are all really good and you would be more than happy with any of them.

As for the centre. Ideally you want it the make and model as your front 2. It should be a constant tonal match across the channels.

Well im pretty much taken on the Gemini so will probably get that in high gloss black :)

I've just been having a look at my AV setup and i dont have the space for a center speaker :(

Where could i possible put it?
There is no space to put it on my AV Rack near the TV

Im going to put the sub in the corner oposite where my PS3/AMP are
