Which bank?

well we been with them all personal and business we just kicked Halifax ass for over £2500 because of there over charging. We been with Clydesdale now for a year both business and personal can't fault them when you ring the bank you actually get your local bank answering. fancy that

natwest has best online services i feel, although have only used hsbc, lloyds and first direct systems.

honestly though, it doesnt matter who you use. you just need to start building a rapport with a single bank - pay your bills on time and stick cash in as offten as possible.

i switched from natwest to lloyds a few years ago just because i fancied a change. it was stupid to say the least and ended up going back to natwest ( i never actually closed my natwest account just stopped using it)

anyway, natwest basically offer me most things i want in terms of credit because of my history with them

Never had a problem with the Co-Op, and the staff are really helpful, in my experience.

I've heard nothing but good things! I've got about £900 to pay back on my staff loan with Barclays (I'll up my payments to clear it quicker) and I think I'll probably end up moving over to them :)

There will always be someone unhappy with their bank so it's just down to luck really. Don't expect a clear cut answer from a thread like this.

Rubbish!

None of the banks will care, you are a number to them, not an individual, despite what they may try and tell you. Look after your credit rating and you'll be fine.

i got a CCJ three years ago from a gym membership which i cancelled and they didnt get the letter. as i moved house I was never told about it so was none fault.... (it was only for £250)

now all banks wont touch me because i have a bad credit rating, but natwest will give me what i want as i have history with them.

as you say though, if you dont mess up your credit in the first place it may not be so much of a problem.

Well you want

- bank that doesn't charge you for using your card abroad (like Halifax does - £1.50 for buying online apps in USD, 99 cent android app with 150% scrooge levy)
- bank that charges over the top for "overdraft" you never requested just because their banking system conveniently doesn't have a method of saying "no funds available" when you pay for your shopping in local supermarket (Halifax charge £5 a day for providing funds when your account doesn't have funds, whether you want it or not)
- bank that doesn't charge for banking (like HSBC does to new customers)
- bank that does't charge others for using their machines (like Alliance & Leicester does in some places, it will create backlash like in nineties - it only take one louse in a banking system and they all start charging £1.50 for withdrawing, we've been through that twice already)
- bank that doesn't charge stupid money for transfers abroad, (HSBC whacks their customers with £30 tax every time they want to transfer funds to account abroad)
- bank that won't help themselves to your funds when they feel your credit card should take priority over costs of living (Natwest were famous for years for it).

All the above might seem like "I don't need it now" scenario, but believe me, you will change your bank maybe once in your life, so you want to choose the least scoundrel institution here and now, if not for your own convenience, then at least to not support douchebaggery and others misery with your money.

I have 3 bank accounts plus 3 savings accounts.

You don't have to have just 1 account. I have a Halifax one that gives me £5 a month for just getting my salary paid into it.

17 here also and i moved accounts over to alliance and Leicester and they have been brilliant especially there on-line service. Only problem i have had is that when i recommend a friend 5 in total only received payment from 3 but that was due to the incompetence of the A&L employer.
