I bought 2 x Geil 2GB 6400 Kit's a while back (2x1GB) and they will not work with my AW9D MAX using the 1.5 or 1.6 bios. They don't work at all, not even one of them on it's own, I have to use bios 1.3. The Problem here is 1.3 will not run vista with my Q6600, it just hangs on install. Even if I install with 1.5 and swap back to 1.3 it won't boot.

So I either need some new ram that is compatible or a new motherboard that is compatible. I am thinking a new board as I max the Q6600 out at 2.7ghz on this one so I will get a bit of a boost.

I have:

Q6600, 4 x 1GB Geil 6400 CAS4, ATI HD3870. I also need Firewire support, and I intend to clock it as far as it will go.

I was going to go for an X38 board, but are they really worth the extra? From what I have read they don't really allow for any better overclock than the P35.

Not sure which board to get really. a £70 P35 a £120 P35 or £130+ X38. There doesn't seem to be a clear favourite like there usually is.

Does anybody now which will work with that memory?

Thanks :)

Hi Capt Doufos,

I have a very similar spec to the one you listed, and after a lot of researching I opted for the Abit IP35 Pro as it overclocks really well, same or very similar results as an X38 and of course cheaper, its a really solid board so far.

Just my 2p's worth :)

I use the board in my sig with 4x1GB sticks of memory with no problems at all.

When I first got the board it would not boot with all four sticks in. I had to use one stick and then adjust the voltage, as it defaults to 1.8v, to 2.1v and then all four worked fine.

This board does not have firewire, but if I needed it I do have a PCI firewire card.

One of my m8's is having the same problems with this board and a Q6600, he cant get it stable over 2.8Ghz seems they just cant handle the quads. I'd imagine the Asus P5k-e would work fine with geil memory, god board for clocking the Q6600, theres a good couple of threads on it in this forum.
