I have a Leadtek 7800GT Extreme which runs 450mhz/1.05ghz as standard and what to go SLi on a DFI UTNF4 SLI-D.
The books say the cards must be identical, which I hope just refers to chipset i.e another 7800GT.
Will it matter if the core/memory speeds are different if i get a standard 7800GT or is it possible to mix chipsets i.e 7800GT + 7900GT??
Advise please on which card to get!
:)

Just get another 7800GT with the same amount of memory and make sure you clock them the same speed.

You cant run two different cores eg,7800 GT and 7900 GT in sli

but you can run two 7800GT's from different manufacturers.

The nvidia drivers where updated to support this.

not a chance

im also wondering if the OcUK 7800GT will work in SLi with an XFX 7800GT Extreme Edition?

Would work if the amount of RAM is the same.
However you would either have to underclock the XFX to the OcUK card speeds. Or see if the OcUK card would overclock to the XFX card speeds.

thats what im worried about the only other XFX 7800GT on OcUK is the Extreme LED Edition but it is liek £20 more than the OcUK 7800GT

I read in these very forums, that some chap found when he sli`d 2 diff makes, the higher clocked one by default took the lead, and the other ran at that. I would think it would be the other way round. Being honest you is best to get the same make and model, but mix & match can be acheived (same model ie 7800 GT )

Ive got a BFG card at 425/1050 and an ocuk ( inno3d ) card at 400/1000

Both cards run at the speed of the BFG. Not sure if this is because the BFG is in the top slot or not.

Only other thing i can think is thet the inno3d soes in fact run at 425/1050 by default.

Anyway there both perfectly stable so im not to concerned but i may change them round next time i get inside my case.

If you cant find the same make, try a different make , they should be fine, if not, go for one of the newer cards, that acheive 7800Gt sli performance. ATi or Nvidia, which ever you like.

Yes the lower card will run at the speed of the higher card & thereby could cause problems if the lower speed card cannot hack the speed boost.
However you can turn the clock speed down if you get stability problems running the lower speed card att overclocked values.

Kinda defeats the point paying extra for a faster clocked card if you have to turn it down to match the lower clocked one though.

Horses for courses.

Well i got the BFG one last year, by time i had the urge to get another all they had was the ocul model or the xfx model. I just went fort he cheaper option.

i've got an xfx ee and a gainward....they default to a clock of 475/1.25. I'm pretty sure thats the clock of the xfx, not the gainward which is lower.
