Which console?

If you're not much of a Gamer then the PS3 is the best option really if you have the money to burn.

- AAA titles are starting to come as frequent as 360 AAA
- Blu Ray Player
- Free Online Gaming
- iPlayer support
- Internet browser
- Sony magic stick (Wiimote esque)

however with the next dash update the 360 is becoming just as much of a entertainment console than it was previously sold as.

- Social applications
- Sky Player
- Xbox exclusives
- Natal

looking back now, I'd have gone with the PS3. but still enjoy my 360.

If forced to choose i'd have trouble between the 360 and PS3 these days. A while back, if Blu-ray wasn't a requirement, i'd have gone for a 360. With Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, Last Guardian etc it's now a different story.

Both very capable machines - look at the games and make your choice ;)

If you know nothing about buying consoles then it really doesn't matter what you buy. At the end of the day, you'll be happy enough with your purchase.

I'd say for anyone new to game consoles, get a 360 then work your way up to a PS3.

If all else fails, get a Wii.

I got a 360 and regret it, all it's good games bar a few come out on pc.
I'd get a ps3 with uncharted 2.

I made this choice recently, went with the 360. Most of my gaming is on race sims, Forza, Grid, PGR, all so cheap to buy new or second hand and all great games with different aspects to them.

I was really worried I'd miss Gran Turismo immensely when I switched from PS2 to 360, but I don't. The 360 is just so so so much better to play and look at than the PS2 that you will be blown away.

As for the PS3, games, game prices and the console price were enough to put me off. It's a very capable machine though.

Thanks everyone for your comments :)

I think I will go for the Xbox360. However, I'll probably go for the elite (purely because of it being black and fitting in with all my other TV stuff).

I'm not too fussed about media streaming. I have an AppleTV for that and wouldn't replace it with anything :)

new game prices are usually identical from what I can find (both X360 and PS3 are too high imo though by about £5 - 10)

Not sure whether Console price has any relevance any more either as Elite's with online membership are the same price as a PS3 (with free online) - just a by the by though;)

TBH the price between the PS3 slim and the only 360 worth getting now, the elite, isnt much when you consider the extras required but they are not needed so you do without them.
This year, like last year, the cream of the exclusive games have been on the PS3 and apart from Splinter cell and Alan wake there isnt much on the 360 that interests me as a multi console owner for 2010. On the PS3 there is GT5, GOW3, Heavy Rain, MAG just in the first 3-4 months of 2010, not including any multiplat games. Sure theyll be more unannounced 360 games ( as they will PS3) out in 2010, and Halo reach, but so far ican only see Alan wake as a purchase, ill get Splinter cell and Mass Effect 2 on my PC. The 360 would make a good purchase though, there a plenty of great games out there and still coming, the multiplatform games perhaps run or look slightly better in some cases, but its pretty much equal now in most cases. Dont have any issues with either controller, some just can t adapt to something different i guess, both have there little issues and both have there good/bad points over the other.
As a PS2 owner im not sure what games you used to play, but most of my favourite PS2 games are only going to be on the PS3, New team ICO game, Next God of War, GT5, Ratchet etc.
The only thing that yuo should be looking at in the end is the games, if you only like to play the big multiplat games such as Fifas, Call of Duty, GTAs, then the cheaper console makes more sense. If you want to play games such as Halo, Gears of War, Forza etc then the 360 is the only way to go, like wise if you want to play GT5, God of War, Uncharted etc then its the PS3. Choose either console and you'll win either way, both have great games out and coming out, but in the end the best way is to have them all, dont miss out on any of the great games on any platform.

As above really, it is a close call

As a now and again gamer if you like playing online i would go with a PS3 since its free (based on you not caring about exclusives on the 360)

If you don't really play online then i would go with a 360 (based on assuming you don't care about any ps3 exclusives)

I wouldn't buy the cheapest 360 as you really want a HDD

In reality you can't go wrong either way as they are both top machines and most things are cross platform anyway nowadays

Thanks, I'm just mega confused now. There seems to be some good packages for Xbox 360 Elites with games for about £199, where similar PS3 packages are about £285.

Price isn't a real issue but I don't wanna spend loads on a console for no reason. I will have to look at the game choices as suggested.

If you do go for the elite, I would pay the extra and get on with the new 250 gb drive.

I am finally looking to replace my Playstation 2 with a new console but I'm not really sure which one to go for.

I bought an Xbox360 when they first came out but didn't really get on with it. I must admit I'm not much of a gamer to be honest, but when it first came out, there weren't many games that I liked the look of.

My girlfriend also had a Nintendo Wii but the games aren't brilliant for that so she sold it. We both mostly like racing games.

As I said, I'm not a huge gamer but I'm looking for something to play every now and again, so what would be my best option?

Obviously my options are Xbox360 or PS3. If the PS3, would you go for the older model or the new one?

Reading this I would agree with others and advise to go with the 360 Arcade

Thanks everyone for your comments :)

But after reading this I would recommend a PS3 (even a 2nd hand 40GB model which you can get for £140 in the highstreet), as IMO it's better looking, quieter and is actually black not grey.

Not sure where you could find a 2nd hand 40GB PS3 for £140 'in the high street'. Cheapest I've seen is £219.

Everyone says something different but for me i had a 360 for years and then recently traded it in for a ps3 and find the ps3 just a better piece of kit, not so much for games its the other things, plus it doesnt look like a tonka toy, not sure how silenmt the new jasper chips are in the 360's but the original ones were just a bit too loud for me.

unfortunately i'm not allowed to say due to forum rules, but there was sign outside when i passed the shop on saturday stating this price. doubt it's changed since then unless individual branches offer different deals?
