Which console?

Hi,

Considering buying myself a console for Xmas either Xbox360, PS3.

I had a 360 on launch day but sold it a year or so later, loved it but didn't use it much, but winter is on its way and I am in need of some gaming.

Interested in playing Modern Warefare 2, Forza 3, GT5 & Dragon Age Origins.

Don't want to start a fan boy war but if anyone who has both consoles and any of the above games could offer any opinions that would be great:)

I have a stand alone Bluray player so console will not be used to play DVD/BD's.

Thanks

Nige.

consoles are great for the money that you spend on them, you get a great piece of powerful hardware for your money...however i just sold my ps3 as i never used it (being a hardcore gamer)i feel more at home with a POWERFUL pc....i think the consoles both have advantages...buy the one that has the games you want to play on it....i personally would not buy another console ever again...i only bought my ps3 for metal gear solid 4 only..after i finished that i never played anything through again...i would put your money to a new pc and forget about consoles

No, just like Forza 3 isn't out on the PS3.

I've got both and use the 360 a lot more. The same title always seems to play better on the 360 but I can't quite put my finger on why.

I have both. 360 hands down. It's in general a better gaming machine, and has a wide catalogue of games. The controller is fantastic for many different genres. I've had it for almost 3 years now, and it has served me well since. It just feels like a proper gaming machine, and stays that way. The PS3 on the other hand I feel is a bit clinical, lacks that 'gaming feel' and in a way relies on people who really need a Bluray player to give it an edge.

What I do like on the PS3 though is that it's free to play online. I'm sincerely hoping there will be more exclusive games released in the near future that would make one pick a PS3 over a 360, but I fear it might be too late by then. And Bluray players are dropping in price ain't they? I picked up a PS3 Slim with MW2 about 2 weeks ago, but I feel it might have been an impulse buy, as I'm struggling to think of a few must-buy games that are exclusive, and I just wanted to own all 3 consoles really.

You said so yourself that you enjoyed the 360 before you had to sell it due to lack of gaming time. Well now you got some gaming time, and there are better models with HDMI and whatnot. So you can't go wrong with it!

Certainly leaning towards the 360 Elite as I got on very well with the 360 controllers, something that I usually struggle with on consoles.

No GT5 forget that was a PS3 exclusive, ah well just hope that PGR5 does make it to the shelves one day.

Must admit not keen on having to pay to play online again though.

Get an Elite, also remember that the Elite's don't come with HD cables any more so remember to grab a HDMI/Component cable when you pick it up.

Also did you manage to play PGR4 before you sold your system ?, fantastic racer and very cheap now so grab that if as well if you haven't played it.

I have both, and can say that my personal recommendation would be to get an Xbox 360, beyond any shadow of a doubt. :p

I prefer the catalogue of exclusives on the 360 (not that I'm saying the PS3 doesn't have some superb games, Uncharted 2, MGS4, LBP, etc), I think the 360 pad is immeasurably better and I prefer the online service (which is to be expected as you have to pay for it). The PS3 does get a lot of use as a media centre though, BluRay, iPlayer and YouTube have all been surprisingly awesome as I didn't purchase the console with the intent to use them.

But all in all, I prefer the 360 and would recommend you get one.

I have both, and as you have a stand alone BD player I would say to go with the 360. While the PS3 is great all-round, i think the 360 just nudges ahead when it comes to games, especially online, Live is just a slick system and I much prefer the controller. Look at the back catalogue of games though, as the games are what it all boils down to and more of the PS3's exclusives may take your fancy.

I am surprised at how many have opted for the xbox. From my experience it would be the ps3. I think its all down to personal preference. You must have friends who have each of the consoles. Go play on them for an evening and see which you like. Then you can make an educated decison.

Also which consoles do your friends play on, I know mostly ps3 owners and even the one xbox guy has given in and got a ps3 last week. ;)

PS3. Better overall. Much better controller. More powerful. Looks nicer. Is silent unlike the TRENT 400 ENGINES running on the Xbox 360. FREE ONLINE GAMING. Now has iPlayer which is cool. Just get the PS3. Spend the little extra and get a decent console.

360 will cause you much hassle, will probably RROD etc. I know lots of fan boys will quote this and give me "the verbal" but they cant handle the truth.

I'd say Wii - huge collection of games, it's not all about graphics tbh, the Wii excels in gameplay and really innovative controls. :/

Wii is great for a blast but it gets boring real quick. If you are having a party and want some innocent fun then yeah but I still wouldnt pick a 360 over a ps3. :D

I also have both and wouldn't be without either of them but as to which one you should buy it really comes down to the factors mentioned already:

1. Will you be playing online / what do your friends have
2. Which controller suits you best (I prefer the 360)
3. Will you make use of the bluray and how important is having it to you

Just for balance though I 'prefer' my PS3 overall...its just a more sohphisticated feeling and looking piece of kit imho. The controllers are rechargeable and it has built in wifi. It doesn't make a racket and it has a browser which means I can surf easily on my plasma rather than digging out the laptop. I like all of these features.

That said there are things the 360 does better...controller (as mentioned) and Live (assuming you are into MP and prepared to pay a sub).

Get both :)

Fantastic, thanks for the well informed opinion. I'll take 3.
