Daughter wants a console for Christmas!

Which one guys?

For us? The one with the most games available!!

How old?
PS4 is probably more kid friendly, but there are some good games on Xbox like Ori and the Blind Forest. Shame the Switch isn't out sooner.

One of the advantages of the Xbox One is that it can play 360 games aswell and you can pick those up cheaply.. there are currently around 250 that work and more on the way:)

Personally I'd say PS4. Free games every month, loads of good games, and it's the superior console of the current gen regardless of what the Xbox fan boys say. Only problem is that PSN is hands down the weaker infrastructure. it's been hacked a fair few times in the kat few years, at one point it was for weeks on end which meant no functionality at all. Xbox live has never let me down.

Will be for me too! lol

I game on the Xbox platform, I chose Xbox way back in the days of the original because thats what all my pals were on and we could easily swap games around and then Xbox Live took off and we all stuck to it.

If I didnt have a group of friends that were already on the same platform today and I had to choose between Xbox 1 and PS4 refresh, I pick the PS4, simply because its more powerful and in your case, your 10 y/o will probably love the Playstation VR.

After a few years out from console gaming and trying to get along with steamlink and the steam controller I had a similar decision to make.

Even though most of my mates had ps4 it felt like the xbox one s had a slightly lower running cost - things like ea access for £20 for the year give you a decent catalogue of games, offers on the likes of cdkeys, the now painful process of buying from likes of xbox sg and russia - whilst not really giving much up in pixel peeping contests on youtube.

If i continue to enjoy the xbox (and ori and forza have blown me away) then it should be a fairly painless upgrade to the xbox scorpio for me in around 18months time.

Other peoples mileage will definitely vary

Xbox is my preferred console because of a lot of what you point out - EA access in particular is great. I would argue the PS4 is more kid friendly and a better buy with the exclusives (I am gonna temporarily re-acquire a PS4 to play exclusives)

Not quite the same age group, but my 5 year old son got on better with the PS4. He logs in, few clicks across to whatever Lego game he's working through and done. Xbox One is a bit more messy on the GUI front. Lots of clutter.

The simplified approach of sub accounts and parental controls is helpful as well.

I wouldn't consider a Wii U with the Switch around the corner. All the focus will be on that for the next year.
