just got a refund for my ds4 as i was having booting issues with it. I was gonna get a replacement but the store i got it from had none in stock so i got a refund.

I was running an e6400 at 440x8 in the ds4. Which boards out there will do this kinda fsb other than another ds4. I like the look of the Asus P5W DH Deluxe but will this be able to reach 440fsb. Should i go for one of these or just get another ds4??

Im using 2gb Team Xtreem 6400 ram which uses d9 micron chips if that makes any difference to choice :)

thanks for the info though ideally i dont really want to spend that much on a board.

How far will the fsb on the Asus P5W DH Deluxe go? is it likely to get similar results to the P5W 64 Pro??

was booting issues. Yeah another ds4 would probly be fine but before i decide to get the same again id like the know about the Asus P5W DH as i could get this tomorrow from a local shop, where as the ds4 is currently out of stock. Or i could get a Gigabyte DQ6

From this local shop i could get the p5w dh for only tenner more than ocuk charge for a ds4 + shipping or get a DQ6 for the same price. Thats main reason for asking about them rather that just ordering a DS4 straight away off ocuk

So looks like either a Gigabyte DQ6 or an Asus P5W DH, i just want confermation whether the p5w dh is capable of 440 fsb or not :)

The P5W DH I had topped out about 420.

I too would have thought the DS4 would be fine. I had one of the first and that would do 500

I have the standard Abit AB9, currently at 410mhz with what seems like a lot of headroom left still (MCH voltage isn't very high). For an £84 board it is very good :)

well after a bit of reading ive decided i dont want the p5w dh. So its either wait for ds4's for come back in stock or get a dq6.

One question about the dq6 though, do they suffer from problems using D9 micron based ram like the ds3's apparently do. I read that geting fsb over 430 is a problem with ds3 if using D9 micron ram, just wondering as from looking at Gigabytes site the DQ6 and DS3 both seem to use same bios'. D9 ram isnt a problem however with the DS4

ive got an S3 ( DS3 but without solid-state caps )

E6300 @ 7x450 ( 3.15GHz ) at 1.3625 V cooled with Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B ( 51/64 temp range in CoreTemp )
Corsair XMS2-5300C4 @ 2.1V 1:1 5-8-8-23 ( next step is to tighten those timings as they are what the board set it to on 'auto' )

most of the p5b deluxes are hitting 450mhz iirc, it's also a damn good board!

yeh but all the asus range of boards require SPD timings @ over 360 FSB
that means your ram will not be able to config for it's specific timings
if i.e 4.4.4.12 apart from the Asus P5B Deluxe.

also it has slow boot up when onboard sound card drivers are installed

might be a good board for overclocking but doesnt make it a good board
overall.

The Asgard recommends the P5W 64 Pro

i have this board and its not worth the money
the board sucks in my opion needs loads of bios until it become's a good
board

double restarts over 300 fsb (killed 1 of my fans)
require SPD timings @ over 360 FSB means my geil ram is running @ 5.6.6.22
@ 400fsb, so i cant set my ram to run @ default settings 4.4.4.12,

slowest board for booting up ever, caused by a sound card driver, like if asus didn't even test this stuff.

iam personally will never buy another asus board again,
go with the abit or gigabyte SpudMaster that seem to work straight from the factory unlike asus.

p5b-deluxe will do 450+ easily

well thats nonsense as far as the p5b deluxe is concerned!

running 4,4,4,4 @ 475 1:1 here no problems.

+ its probably the most kentsfield friendly board out there.
(as far as fsb is concerned)

double restarts

not anymore on this board

slowest board for booting up ever

not sure about the sound issue, have a dedicated soundcard.
Ive not personally experienced any slow boots.

+ temp sensor are spot on with core temp which is a good thing for me
id rather have cpu diode(s) temps!

yes maddenss i see you say its the best for kentsfield
thats only because all the other asus boards memory
dividers are screwed ie all 975 range

Asus' Great Bug makes kentsfield

only your board is not affected (p5b-deluxe) ;) 965 chipset
this problay why your kentsfield runs great
until asus fix the bios on all their boards to the exact same as p5b-deluxe
wich seems to have the best bios team.

thats good the p5b-deluxe doesnt require SPD timings i didnt no that
i'll correct my post.

im sure sure how official the above quote is.

if you see read through the XS forums, non of the other boards can give much over 333fsb with the kentsfields including the Evga 680i (sadly), DFi, Foxconn, Gigabyte (off my head), and other 975 / 965 boards.

there are some excpetions such as - Bad Axe 2, Msi Power up 975 (but tends to die), and the p5b Deluxe ofcourse.

Basically you had a duff board. This does not mean they are all the same.

The Bios is stable and solid. 450+ FSB. No Vdroop. No issues with my G Skill HZ @ 4-4-4-12

dis-advantage is that you can not set downwards mutlipliers, also iirc doesn't support Sli, the onboard wifi is pretty rubbish (if you would use this), the Jmicron controller is awefull and a lot of people have had problems with the dvdrw/cdrw drives when having it installed (i too had this problem, un-installed the jmicron and let windows configure my drive and all is fine now)! other than these things i really love the board and can't say that i'm experiencing any problems with the board at the minute! i would highly adise it for overclocking
