getting new rig. will have a c2d 6600. im just after the lowest temps possible using just a cpu cooler. which will give me this.
so many conflicting opinions. what about between the aero flower(120mm) and tuniq
thankgs guys

I'm guessing you want the best aircooler... do you care about noise levels?
Tuniq is about the best unless you want low noise levels.

You might want to consider the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro also.
Yes i forgot to ask, is there a budget? Because that one is very good for the money.

no budget really. was thinking of the aero flower which is £45 so no budget really. just want lowest temps. just worried about the tuniq fitting into the case(Antec900 with 8800gts). is the arctic better than the tuniq and what about the ninja

That's interesting, got any results/reviews comparing those?
Spcr did a review of the ultra 120 vs ninja and ultra 120 came out on top just. The arctic isn't really in the same league, its a lot cheaper. Its common knowledge that its not as good as the ninja, there should be loads of reviews comparing thse two although i can't think of any off the top of my head.
As for the tuniq, because of its poor availability to begin with not that many people reviewed it, but i think pimprig or whatever they're called now may have compared it to the ninja, i also seem to recall xbit labs may have compared it to the ninja.
Sadly theres no review of all 4.
Feeling a bit lazy right now otherwise i would go and dig out the links. :p If you can't find any of them i'll find you some links later.

is the tuniq with its internal fan really going to give lower temps than the 120ultra with a 120mm delta fan fitted for eg

Probably not. I'm assuming they are all used with their stock fan and in the case of the ultra 120 used with a standard type fan. Or even all tested with the same fan.
But a delta isn't considered to be a practical heatsink solution for most.

Lol yeah so am I hence why I asked :D

I nearly always buy a phat cOOler but this time I went for the ARCTIC Freezer 7 Pro (I think I convinced myself it would be quieter than the INTEL retail jobby, as well as cooling better?) . .

The Ninja does look overpowering on the ASUS P5B Deluxe though!

Thanks for the linkage Joe42 :)

One thing is I never used a 'horizontal' HSF before, always 'vertical' i.e they have always blown the air downwards onto the CPU. I'm getting the distinct impression that 'horizontal' is better because all the new releases are like that?

kinda like the idea of the rear case fans assisting the 'horizontal' HSF in its task, also like the idea of using the rear case fan (via a ghetto shroud maybe?) as the main CPu fan (pulling air through the heatsink and straight out the back).

[edit] the one thing I question about the 'horizontal' design is does it work as well when u have a case with a blowhole in the side above the HSF?

The vertical design is better for cooling of motherboard components and the chipset, but not the cpu.

With a vertical design you are blowing the air round corner, and it has no direct exhaust, so airflow is nowhere near as good as with a horizontal heatsink.
The thing that made the different was heatpipes, or at least better and cheaper heatpipes, a hoizontal heatsink would be useless without them, but with them you don't have to blow the air onto the cpu anymore so you can have much less restricted airflow.

With a horizontal design having a blowhole above it doesn't really help.

Have a look at my little home made duct which allows my rear fan to pull air straight though the heatsink.

Yup that's what I'm talking about, but you done a pull-push (2-fan) job, how is that setup with just the rear fan 'pulling'.

Looks like the Ninja (+fan) totally blocks access to your memory slots?

I can wiggle both my memory modules out, thankfully. You couldn't fit the corsair ones with a big heat spreader in there though i don't think.

i've never really experimented much with just the rear fan, but because the heatsink is also open at the top and bottom i should imagine it works fine, just a little hotter.

I'm trying it now, i'll report back. The rear fan is on a very low rpm, temperature is 51 with the front fan at 90%, room temp is 25.5 degrees.

Edit: Cpu temp is now 54 and seems to be staying there.
