I'm looking to build my own PC and need choose which CPU ot of these two to get:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £259.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £179.99
Total : £449.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

I want to keep my budget to about £1000 and if i go with the i5 i can achieve that and have enough to purchase all the other components i want (whereas if i go with the i7 i have to compromise with other components)

I am looking to crossfire down the line so will an i5 handle that??

Any help is appreciated.

Sure, how well dual GPUs work are as much to do with the motherboard...some are quite misleading about how many pcie lanes second GPUs get.

Remember to get a proper cooler so you can get a healthy overclock if you go crossfire.

But that will set you back less than the difference between those two CPU's anyway.

Haswell runs hot as heck.

Rule of thumb is if you are going dual gpu get the i7. A few people have done tests on the graphics subforum and it is the difference between getting 99% gpu utilisation and not.

the way things are going, i would seriously consider a 4770k for gaming at this budget. thus you will have a decent base to upgrade GPU in a couple of years or whatever and not be cpu limited.

Get the i7 as games are leaning to wards cpu usage more often now compared to old, bf3 bf4 splnter cell bl.

An for the price it's a winner.
