Which custom ROM do you use?

Oxygen for my Desire.
I don't really notice much when I change from Rom to Rom. Must be doing something wrong

It's all phone specific, just google it. When you've find numerous sources telling you to do the same thing it'll be clear what you have to do.

So... looking for a custom ROM for my Galaxy S. It's getting a bit ropey now - slow, laggy, basic apps (like messages) FCing all the time, taking an age to start up, GPS has always been awful, etc.

Just hoping it will give my phone enough of a lease of life so I can bear waiting for the SGSIII to come out and perhaps even drop in price a little...

Now I've never flashed a phone before. I know I'll need to Google this, but any pointers from those more experienced here would be appreciated to make sure I don't miss anything. (A bit nervous even though the phone's now old and near end of contract...)

I've got the teamhacksung ICS rom on my sgs1 and love it.

This, also on an SGS1. I'm a year away from an upgrade and this has given the phone a whole new lease of life.

That said, it threw a bit of a wobbler a couple of weeks ago and decided it needed to do a factory reset, losing all my apps and settings in the process, but nothing that a thorough Titanium Backup regime couldn't solve.

Just read as much info around it as possible, look up other forums for 'horror stories' so you don't do the same thing they did.

^^ Yeah, currently have 8 tabs open on this, but it's so bewildering to someone coming to it with no prior experience, and a lot of ppl seem to take it for granted that you know the basics!

Found a couple of horror stories, and learned so far: don't delete data when re-flashing! And backup EFS.

That's about all I'm sure about at the moment, though. And there are so many different ROMS, and apparently there are separate things to flash for ROM, kernel and modem? I didn't know that - and I still don't know what that means!

Oh well... on with the reading :)

Changed my rom to Team Kangs Aokp ics rom last night and its great, loads of options for customisation, and battery is pretty good for the first day so far.

I've been running CM9 for only one day now and whilst I initially thought it was pretty neat, I think I might go back to Darky's 10.4.2 as trying to import my contacts has been a nightmare. Nice ROM though and the start up screen was luverly :D

I've been running an unofficial CM9 on my Galaxy Portal for a few weeks now and I have to say it's brilliant :D - It's nailed together by Tom3q and Criminal (plus a few others) over on samdroid.net

After a few hours fiddling and fettling I've got it running really nicely and I absolutely love the fact I can put a switchpro widget in the notification window!!

I've tried different launchers etc and settled on Apex, Nova was ok but Apex clinched it for me as Nova was a little more sluggish.

Are there any other ICS supported launchers (with the ICS style app/widget drawer - can't go back to ADW after this! lol) I've looked around and it's only Trebuchet, Apex and Nova that I've found...

Aokp is cm9 though isn't it, just with the lot more customisable options.

Bit late to this thread, but surely this is simply wrong? They are both based on AOSP if that's what you mean, but AOKP was out before CM9 on the GNex I think, so it's a bit cheeky to say AOKP is CM9, no?

Yesterday I moved off AOKP to CM9 as CM9 doesn't have the WiFi sleep policy problem (where it closes your connection when the screen goes off)

Your contacts are all in Gmail though, right? Is it not logging in to you account properly?

No not cheeky at all, Because on the Galaxy S2 AKOP is based on CM9 :)

Ok, I didn't use it on SGSII. On GNex I don't believe it is. How can it, if it came first?

I would say AOKP is better than CM9 on Gnex, has many more features, but the WiFi sleep bug means I'm going to use CM9 for now...
