Which earphones? Sony EX71, Sennheiser CX300 or Creative EP-630?

Just want to inform you guys, I ordered a pair of these Sony MDR-EX71SLB Fontopia Head and yea, wow excellent sound quality and stunning bass.

But make sure you have the headphone cables wrapped in bubblewrap, cos the cheap crappy coating around the cable is absolutely rubbish and shreads to pieces, it didn't even last a month. The thing is, listening to music whilst on the move causes the cable to rub against buttons/zips on your clothes... so eventually the wiring is all exposed.

This has put me off the Sony "in-ear" headphones and I have a pair of CX300s coming to me tomorrow.

This happened to me after 3months, Replaced them with the same and the problem seemed to be sorted (new coating?) but the second pair had a cable problem after 8months. Had no problems with my CX300's yet.

I thought sony was supposed to be about quality but 3 or 8 months is not even meeting the legal minimum surely
Guarantee? 71's are notorious for crappy wire coating. The older 71's were fine though :\.

Hopefully Sony have sorted it out - although I'm still reading reviews suggesting otherwise. I just dug out my Sony pair, and the coating feels soft and powdery compared to the CX300's I just received today.

Had the EX71s. The sound quality isn't great and they aren't durable either. Give it a few months and they will fall apart.

Sennheiser CX300 - These are fantastic. Highly durable and excellent sound quality and value for money.

Ditto had the EX70s and 71s both fell apart, have a pair of Shure E2C's now I would very highly recommend them.

I thought I would bump this thread since Im having to replace the ex71. The wire didnt go but one of the speakers did, it still works if you press hard on the back of the earpeice. I thought the sound quality was ok but probably lacking in midrange? I dont have much to compare it to.
Overall I like the in ear effect.

Should I wait a month + for these to come back or I could just chuck something else cheaper in with another order Im doing now and get free postage

ep-630 - 7.99
mx500 - 7.95
mx550 - 9

I know there is much better to be had but considering I can have one of these for almost nothing, Im not looking for anything more up market at the moment.

At the moment, I will probably get the 630 and sell the ex71 when I get them

Im tempted by these CX300 headphones. I currently have normal ipod buds and love them but would prefer some with better bass.

The main thing for me is comfort and sound quality. I can wear my ipod buds for hours on end without them hurting my ears

I have had problems with in ear phones in the past but never tried these rounded ones, i have tried ipod in ear headphones and some sony groove ones.

Are these comfortable for the average user (i.e wearing them for hours on end?)

edit - just found this --

"Sound horrible, no bass, cable is too long when around the neck, make noise in a windy day, there is a lot wrong with it, the shape, the materials used to build, etc...
It's not gold plated too.

I left it on my drawer and bought a Sony for £6.99, much better.

if you can afford buy a set of earphones gold plated, you'll be amazed with the difference in sound quality."

Is this true?

Depends which sonys he means, saw some models for like 2 quid :D The ex71 are on offer in a few places, you can get them for free if you have the right discounts, etc They give them away with some products.

I guess I will order these creative things and see how they sound, I only have to pay a couple of quid after discounts so I cant complain if I dont like them

gold conducts electricity well plus looks bling for the all important placebo factor :p

the ex71 are ok but will eventually make your ears sore if you have fitted them tightly

I have a pair of CX300s for my ipod and they sound so much better than the standard headphones. The only problem I have with them is that the left speaker wire is very short - (the right wire is over twice the size). It's quite annoying as when I turn my head it pulls on the wire. I don't know if it is just my pair that is like this though. They are worth getting for only £18.

You do understand that it's a j cord and not a y cord? as in you wear the short one in your left ear, and then the other one passes behind your neck to your right ear? (or vice versa)

I got a pair of ep-630 and they are ok, better for music then the ex71 I think and the high pitch is a bit more defined. However I'd say they are equal for games but I prefer the y cord.

I tried a pair of new ipod earphones too and that beats both of them, the bass is much more defined and pronounced. The ep-630 would only compete in that aspect if you pressed on the back of them while wearing and even then I think the ipod wins out of the 3 of these Ive tried
