Which finish?

LOL @ having it perforated in ///M colours, when your cars not an M5.

lol@you not bothering to read the thread, when your car is a Passat diesel.

M5's are not perforated either

Considering you've been nosing around for the next motor, is it worth further expenditure on the current car?

Absolutely, given this wheel fits every car on the shortlist :)

win/win on that front then.

I have zero knowledge of bmw trim styling, do they all have some level of silver/alu finish? Or is the alu replaced by the wood or leather depending of spec?

If there is alu in the next dash, then silver will give it a highlight.

Obviously it all goes out the window if you start looking at cars with coloured stitching already ;)

The trim depends on a number of things - usually trim level but obviously from the options list you could have almost any combination on any car.

I happen to dislike the aluminium trim and prefer wood - I dont like the idea of silver stitching.

Thats because the original is a picture from an E39 with 5000 miles on the clock. It's a library photo. Did the fact the steering wheel was on the wrong side not give it away? :p

:o

i did find it odd... :D

Will the perforated and plain not feel differently? Hence your choice should be made on which feels more comfortable if you're going to be travelling long distances in your car. That said, I prefer the plain one, it is nice and subtle whilst being attractive.

Have you already got a spare wheel then? Otherwise you'd need to buy your next car, transfer the wheel and then sell the e39?

Just swap them over

It's going to be ages before I change cars anyway. The likely candidate for replacement is so rare I imagine there are less than 20 on the road.

And what are you thinking the likely candidate is?

I think if I'm going to change a perfectly brilliant car which I've no real complaints about and still thoroughly enjoy owning it'll need to be for my dream car - a 2002/2003 E39 M5 in Estoril Blue with Champagne or Sand Beige leather, black dash top and communications pack.

Otherwise why bother. Might as well just keep the car I love until one day something jumps out. Can always do more travelling instead in the meantime :p

Would you really want another e39? Still look great but they are getting on a bit now - suppose in say 1yrs time you spotted a mint condition m5 e39 with spec you said, would you buy it?

I must have misunderstood your post. I thought you said that you pay the guy a deposit, he sends you a wheel, you send your old one back, then you get your deposit back, ie you only have one wheel at the end of it all.

No, you're correct. He means swapping the wheel from the newer car with the older one.

This is why its a less than easy decision, and the latter is probably what'll happen. If the ideal minter shows up, great. If it doesnt, never mind.

Yes but obviously in 2-6-12 months time or whenever I can take the nice wheel out of my car and put it into whatever is next?

I like the perforated leather on my wheel, which is in three small sections where the centre meets the rim. But that's too large an area to be perforated, get the plain.

Now you've got me intrigued; what does having the leather on your wheel recovered cost?
