Which game for a 5 year old as an introduction to gaming?

They are ancient now I know but the Commander Keen games are simple clean fun and very colourful, spent ages on them when I was around that age and you can pick them up on steam for about £3.

Lego games as mentioned.

2nd vote for Minecraft on peaceful. My nearly 4 year old is totally competent to navigate, dig stuff and chase animals ;). However she is atm more interested in Animal Crossing City Folk on the Wii.

Minecraft would be fascinating to a kid. Those pigs and sheep to punch would make them laugh and smile.

For Minecraft, my 5 and 4 year olds love it.
You can get loads of premade maps from here so they have some where pre built to look around

Toki Tori - cutesy platformer and £3.49 on Steam

Whilst it's cutesy in looks, it requires the mental acuity of EinsteinZilla. I got completely stuck at points, and I like to think I'd be better at the game than a five year old :p

When mine were 5 the first game they ever played was Banjo Kazooie : Nuts & Bolts on the xbox. They got loads and loads of play out of it once I'd opened a few levels and buit them a few different vehicles.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the sims tbh, it's quite girly, she'll get to dress up sims and decorate houses etc. Will also nurture her spirit of control so she will have more drive to become a wealthy manager or similar.

any open world games are good imo ,my kid wasted a lot of time in just cause 2 and GTA IV.

people will frown upon it but im serious i remember watching the "aliens" film at home when i was little and i was only 5 the year it got released so i cant have been older than 7 and it didnt wreck me....

i bet we a lot of people played doom etc as kids to and never realised how gory it was running around with a chain saw etc kids dont see games like adults do
