Just been thinking about the time when crysis got released and 1000's of PC gamers went crazy trying to upgrade there PC to be able to run that game at a decent FPS rate (remember the 8800tgx was top GPU card then)
Now that out about 3 years ago when crysis was released...

So which games have been released in them last 3 years which need a faster GPU card to run then crysis at a decent FPS rate ????

Arma 2 can be pretty taxing - for example, you can set the render resolution independent of the screen resolution. It's a CPU hog too though, so I'm not really sure what is bottlenecking what some of the time! :D

Metro pushes 2x GTX580's pretty damn hard at 1920x1200. Just about playable on max settings. Crysis is a walk in the park by comparison.

I think both this and the original are unplayable fully maxed out (including NCP settings) with any system at a high resolution. As much down to unsuitable coding as demanding situations.

I just got cysis in the steam sale, my 6970 plays it at 40fps with everything on ultra and mean everything. Dont see what the fuss is about IMO played it for 2hours was not bad.

That's because 6970 is very well optimised/scale extremely well with Crysis and Metro2033...if you were using older/lower AMD/ATI card, it will struggle quite a bit, especially with the minimum frame rate dipping below 25fps.

I wouldnt say crysis is poorly optomized i would say it is still the best looking pc game by far and has a truck load of stuff happening on screen thats why it needs uber system to run and its nearly 4 years old now !
Metro on the other hand is very dark looking god knows why it takes up so much gpu power , now that could be poor coding ok its dx11 but hell crysis still looks better than it by far imo

Just finished CRYSIS (3rd time) but on my new HD5870- all game played on MAXED SETTINGS "ULTRA" (only shadows on very high) + 4AA ... It was quite smooth play and It was pleasure to play, last time I played about 1.5 year ago on HD4870 and only on low/mid settings!

Played METRO ON HD4890 I believe and GPU was struggling (will try maybe on HD5870)

Noticed that ArcaniA: Gothic 4 isn't smooth, in fact doesn't metter on ULTRA settings or mid settings game performs same, badly optimized game imo, will try couple new updates!

also installed Dragon Age Origins: gameplay isn't that smooth on Maxed settings, but I only tried game first 5mins lol )
