I have just been looking at the Sennheiser HD485, and They seem to get good reviews, How would they compare to the Medusa's that I have used in the past?

Also I read they can simulate suround sound, I was just wondering how you go about doing this, and how good it is? I will be using them with an Audigy 2, or with my onboard sound, have I got the right stuff to do this?

*Cant afford an X-Fi*

Don't know much about headphones but AFAIK, the simulated surround feature only exists on the X-Fi card  , hopefully someone can confirm. You should get far better sound quality from the Sennheisers though, definately much better for listening to music with though I see that's not a priority. I think you'll only get a good surround effect with well placed speakers, so doubt you'll miss much with the stereo phones. Does someone mabye have a stereo pair you could try out just to see how it is with games?

Audigy 2 does the simulated surround sound thing too, both with headphones and 2.1/2.0 speakers. It's not wonderful though and you often wonder if it's actually doing anything :D It's better on speakers than headphones IIRC.

Medusas are better than the Zalmans btw, but neither are exactly great.

Normally Id say Steelsounds. But OcUK dont have any.

Went through 3 pairs of Medusas, the build quality is *****... dont buy em.

Could try Zalman.... but Im thinking you'd be safer with Sennheisers matey.

Well I had Medusas, thats the reason for needing new headphones, the ear peuce snaped off from the headband

I'm going for a set of Sen HD555's I think!!

Got the Medusa 5.1's atm and their poor tbh :(

HD555's + my XFi Xtreme should = good gaming & music :D

I just got some Sennheiser 555's today and all I can say is they're fantastic. The sound / build quality of them are second to none but then I wouldn't expect anything less from Sennheiser. I highly recommend getting a set if you haven't already bought yourself some by now.

:)

got the same problem. my medusas a crumbling but by bit and they're only just over a year old.

was considering the new razer baracuda..wondering if they justify the price tag.

OR

i'd better off with a decent regular set of stereo cans.?

hadnt seen the barracuda - interesting :)

did a search on google for the Razer and there is a good review that gives a fair amount of information about the headphones.

seems it's very good on games, but less so with music and movies. also seems to need a decent soundcard to get the best out of it.

not sure my new shuttle on board sound qualifies as a decent soundcard :(

Creative HS600 £29.99 or less are quite good. They sound much better than they look and was shocked when i got them home & plugged them in to my Elite Pro, I was expecting much less.

Use these for my tv/media centre superb phones for the money and have a set of HD465`s (£34) for my main pc again spot on :D as for meduas`s the sennheisers are in a different league :D

Got my new 555's hooked up the my XFi Xtreme card!!!

Last time I buy "so called" surroundsound headphones!!!

This combo is the best by far, crisp and I notice sounds in game I didn't hear before!!

After a burn in period I think they will only get better :D
