:confused: Hi all iv decided to get a new graphics card but im not sure what to go for or what make iv been on oc website and iv thought about a GeForce 7900 GTX card but im not sure which make to buy or should i splash out and buy this card EVGA GeForce 7950 GX2 SuperClocked 1024MB GDDR3 HDTV-Out/Dual DVI and what are the advantages over this card and the 7900 range any help would be much appreciated thanks Chris

My system specs are

DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI DR
Hiper HPU-4K580-MK Type R
2Gb Crucial Ballistix Tracer
BFG 7800 GT
AMD Athlon 64 x2 4400+
 
Either take advantage of the really good deal on x1900xt's at the moment (£205) which are actually better than 7900's, or stretch further for the 7950. A 7900 would be a poor investment at this time.
 
What's your budget? The way I see it the only viable options at the moment are as follows: -

  • Connect3D Radeon X1800XT 512MB @ £150 inc.
  • Connect3D Radeon X1900XT 512MB @ £210 inc. (£205 This Week Only)
  • (Unknown) Radeon X1950XT 256MB @ £275 inc. (Due For Release)
  • (Unknown) Radeon X1950XT-X 512MB @ £375 inc. (Due For Release)
  • Leadtek Geforce 7950GX2 1024MB @ £375 inc. (Currently Out Of Stock)
  • BFG Geforce 7950GX2 1024MB @ £380 inc.

The 7900GTX is not even worth considering as it costs a bomb more than the X1900XT and is whipped by it in many games to boot, not to mention having inferior image quality, and the 7900GT is just a joke really as it has a 5% failure rate (that's 1 in 20 folks) and the same inferior image quality that the 7900GTX has.

If you can afford the BFG Geforce 7950GX2 then definitely go for that, it's the same speed as two 7900GTs in SLi (which is also an option if your motherboard supports it, as it costs the same too), so it beats any card on my list.

Maybe not, early reports, and Gibbo, say that the new x1950xt will out perform the 7950gtx and be cheaper! It might be worth waiting a few more weeks and see what the benchmarks say when they start to appear.

edit: looking at your list i now see its the 256 not the 512mb x1950 you've got listed. My statement was regarding the 512 model which is available on the 23rd of this month.

Aye, I was mentioning the X1950XT not the X1950XT-X, which will not be far behind the 7950GX2 for almost £100 cheaper. :) Could be the biggest bargain before Christmas (barring price-drops), the X1950XT-X will be about the same price as the 7950GX2 though.

Added it to my list anyway as, if it does outperform the 7950GX2 (which I think is unlikely), then the 7950GX2 will quickly become the most short-lived and pointless graphics card(s) ever made. :p

Depends what resolution you play at really.

Your CPU (left at stock) will bottleneck the 7950GX2 quite badly at resolutions below 1600x1200 however at this resolution and above it will be quicker than say a single X1900XT.

Having said that is it worth the extra outlay... well no not really.

For £205 the connect 3D X1900XT really is hard to beat in terms of bang for your buck.

No, because the guy in the other thread had a budget of three hundred pounds. :rolleyes: Work on your reading skills.

I agree with the 7950GX2 in this situation because he seems to prefer Nvidia cards, and besides that he can actually afford it. It's still not as good value for money as an X1900XT or X1950XT, and has inferior image quality, but like I said he seems to prefer Nvidia so why not.
 
hi reading you replys im wondering is it worth waiting a few weeks to see what the other cards are like also with my athlon x2 4400 as its standard is it easy to overclock and would i need to to use the new graphics card or is it ok as it is and how do you overclock anyway iv never changed my system since new is it worth a go
