Ok so I decided to test my MSI 970 in my partners pc with a 600w OCZ psu and the coil whine was even worse and even comes through the speakers. I even tested it on an old pc power and cooling silencer 610w and is just as bad so its def not the psu. Have gone for an RMA now so hopefully the replacement won't have the same issue. Back to 660sli for now I guess.

anyone got the Zotac GeForce GTX 970 AMP Extreme Edition??? they any good are these affected with coil whine too....(i know its possible that any card could have it) just haven't seen or heard much of these cards....???

i did hear my card make some coil whine when vsync was off and i was loading a game up in 4k mode. not heard it since.

mines EVGA ACX 2.0. not guna vote until ive had a bit more time with it.

Right chums......called round to BTone's house last night (cheers bud, great meeting you).

He very kindly pulled the 980 G1 from his build and threw in my 970 G1 and gave it a bashing in 3DMark. He is running a hefty galaxy 1000w PSU.

So as our very own Gibbo has said......number one thing, is to check your PSU.

Quite clearly, my Corsair CX750M is either not up to it, or faulty.

I have raised a technical query with Corsair support (don't know if any of the OCUK team can help here) because quite clearly.....the "silent operation" they speak of is not really happening in this case.

Either way, the PSU was bought in February this year and is not operating as advertised while still well within the power limits.

The card is quite obviously not to blame, so it's the PSU.

Do you think there is any chance of Corsair helping?

I seriously have less than zero bucks left to throw at a PSU as much as i would love to right now.

Where did you buy it from? fortunately I bought it from ** Do not mention competitors **, and they accepted it as a return even though I was just out of their return period by a month or two

Wasn't ** Do not mention competitors ** but it was a competitor (or not these days :D) and that was for the simple fact that OCUK didn't have it in stock.

See, that's the thing....it was getting cracking reviews and I specifically wanted this model.

That's why its so gutting that it appears to be....well.....****.

** Do not mention competitors ** have just accepted an RMA for a the corsair psu i bought in june.

Theres a fully modular 850w superflower for £80 from OcUK atm, i bought the 750w superflower during the week, made a bit of difference to my gtx980 in high fps areas lol

You know.....i have had zero success in getting a decent OC and i am wondering if the PSU is to blame as well

yeah....i will be going the EVGA/SuperFlower route......unless.....Corsair give me an AX.........FLOL!

As I have said before I had a CX750 (non modular) and went to the 850W Superflower.

Coil whine disappeared and the PSU is silent, as the fan hasn't cut in yet.

Some say 850W is overkill but I say you are better looking at it than looking for it, for all the extra cost. :D

Could also be a certain combination of parts, not just one component to blame?

Only 89 votes? i thought hundreds-thousands were sold.

Must be more than 89 people registered on this forum who bought one.

The original thread/poll was accidentally reset by Hilly, blame him! That said, you'll never get any real numbers, only the people that see the thread/poll. Plus, there are also the people that bought in store/haven't made a forum account.

Going by what's on show though, you can clearly see that there's a divide with who has it, and who doesn't. There's also the people that thought they had it, but later found it was their PSUs causing the problem.

My last two MSI Gaming 970s were screamers! This using a Superflower 1000w Plat.
