Hi Guys,

Does anyone know what might cause mine to coil whine while idle? (Very loud and high pitched)

Its fine when any 3d application running (menus still cause whine)

Got my MSI 970 today, played a few hours of Metro 2033, Arma 3, BF4 and dayz and no coil whine :) Difference over the 7950 is amazing!

Changed the spec on my own build 970 reference NVIDIA card:-

Hi there

Good news regarding coil whine, we've requested our factory to make some changes to the capacitors on our cards, the revisions include:-

Hi Gibbo,

Will your card get an independent review on the tinternet? (if not I would be happy to test it and report back :-) )

I got my msi gtx970 a few weeks ago and I have paired it with a superflower 650w psu & no coil whine evident. I may have had issues if I kept my older cm 600w Igreen in though as it used to whine playing Team Fortress 2 on a kfa gtz760

How do you know it's not being caused or coming from that PSU of yours if it's the 2nd one in succession?

i guess i don't really know 100% for sure.... unable to test it with another psu. but in fairness my psu is not very old, it has run both a 780 lightning and sli 770 lightnings in the last year with no whine or problems for that matter. im not changing psu at this moment to run a 970.....

I'm guessing that PSU of yours is the culprit or amplifying it some what. ADATA Psu's are not something i'm familiar with. Pity you can't try the card in another machine with a better known brand for confirmation.

the only thing i can say about this matter is...its the very same sound/ noise as the first one... it was RMA'ed and they tested it and found it to be loud coil whine....(replacement/credit back). so it cant be just my psu that's the issue, replacing that is not an option at this moment.

Happy to report that my Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 has NO coil whine at all!

It's the 1.1 version
