Which headphone ?

Why not?

I prefer Grado's, they have better bass than Sennheisers and just the same range, I don't like ear encompassing/enclosing headphones and find the Grado's more comfortable. Also they are cheaper :)

Go into a decent music shop and try before you buy though and make up your own mind.

If you do decide on Grado's you may aswell stick to the SR60's, had mine for 7 years and all I've had to replace are the ear cushions. My dad has got the HD595's and loves the extra treble for listening to his classical music.

I agree that the Grado SR60s sound great but they're the very last cans I'd recommend for gaming. They're just plain uncomfortable to use. I had a pair of SR80s but got rid of them after a couple of weeks because neither my son or I could bear to wear them for more than a short time as they were so uncomfortable.

Have you seen the number of recommended mods for the ear pads of these cans on audiophile forums?

FWIW I bought a set of Sennheiser HD 600 which suit me very well and are probably overkill acoustically for games. Based on my own experience I'd say anything but Grados for gaming.

I have the DT 770 Pros (80 ohm version), and I can definitely vouch for them. Although, since I've never tried the HD 595s, I can't really make a fair comparison. I do think, however, that neither will require an amplifier for gaming use. I have a Corda Move amplifier and, to be honest, I don't notice much difference when gaming whether I'm using the amplifier or not. So, from a gaming point of view, I'd forget about the extra expense and just focus on getting the 'phones. It follows that the HD 595s shouldn't require an amplifier, since they're generally considered easier to drive than the DT 770 Pros.

I used to have mine plugged into the front I/O bay that came with the Fatal1ty card and, from what I can remember, I believe it provided some level of amplification being a headphone-out rather than using the line-out on the back of the card. As you can assume, I'm advise you get the Beyers because they've been wonderful for me. Personally, I could do with more bass since I'm used to gaming with a 5.1 speaker setup and I'm used to the typically-overpowering bass the subwoofer produces. For this reason, I'm glad I picked the DT 770 Pros over the HD 595s and Audio Technica A700s I was also condering at the time since the latter 'phones produce even less bass.

Mmm I agree. I used to have a pair of DT 770 Pro's and they by far have been my favorite set of cans (driven incidently by the same sound card). I now have a pair Audio Technica ATH-A900 and they lack bass, I'm guessing it might be something with AT's headphones since Mansize tissue indicates the same with the A700's.

I'm in the usa. Just picked up grado sr80's for $25. They have sr60's to for the same price. Bargin? Want a pair?

$25 dollars? Brand new and boxed? Good find, just had a look on a few US online shops and they are priced at $80-100.

Over here they are around £80

I've got a pair of Audio Technica A900's and I love them. Best cans I've had. I'm very pleased with the bass they provide but it isn't thumpingly heavy. However, I don't listen to much dance or rap music so big bass doesn't really bother me. They still do very well when watching films like Saving Private Ryan.

Just wanted to agree with the comments about Grado not being suitable for gaming IMO - narrow soundstage, bright sound, recessed mids, uncomfortable to wear (even after you've bent the headband). I owned the SR80s, great for rock music, but I ended up selling them since they didn't suit 80% of my music.

Also wanted to say there's a 50 ohm version of the HD595s available so they would be just fine without amplification. Not that I'm exactly mad on the Sennheiser sound myself. For gaming I would go for something with more bass.

Totally agree, not right for gaming.

I'm no fan of Grados but were I able to buy 10 pairs for 250 bucks from a reliable source I'd snap them up for a very fast profit. In UK pounds £12.50/ pair, easily re-saleable at £50.00/ pair.

Agreed, but my hf-1's arnt that bad paired with my amp. Building a new amp int eh next few weeks so should improve the soundstage further.

O and people who think they are comfortable. Go through the pain and let your ear cartilage mould to the grado lines..... Mine did and i can wear them for a few hours now before needing a rest, but the plus side with grados over others is that they extremely light, and the money you spend on them goes into the drivers and cables, not on fancy materials to make them big, bulky, heavy, and aesthetically pleasing...... Well i think grado's look sublime, and very cool, love wearing mine out and about :D:D:D
