256 XFX 7600GT XXX (mem 1600, GPU 590MHz, 12 pipes)

or

256MB XFX 7900GS XXX (Mem 1600, GPU 600MHz, 20 pipes)

I cant seem to find a 7900GT. Is the 7900GS a lot slower than a 7900GT?

Which gives no anwser to his question.

Out of those two the 7900GS is quicker. The 7900GT is quicker again but not by a lot. :)

I understood his answer.

7900 is faster than the 7600 and the GT version is faster than the GS.

Thats how I read it anyway.

If the GS has a faster clock speed and more pipes (and both using the same architecture), surely it's obvious that the GS is quicker?

Or am I missing something stupidly obvious? :p

Spot on, 7900 GS is about 25% - 50% faster, depending on rest of setup and benchmark.

Thanks for the help.

The 7900GS seems to be well worth the money and since im finding it hard, for some reason, to find a range of 7900GT cards ill probably get the GS.

Ive always bought GT's before but only lately seen the different types in the 7900GS family. i.e. mem 1600MHz and gpu 600MHz.

If you can afford the 7900GTO, that's a cracking card for the money. Close to a 7900GTX in speed...

Would you recommend the OcUK MSI GeForce 7900 GTO SILENT 512MB?

Ive alway stuck with XFX or BFG and ive never heard of MSI.

Quite a few on the forum have this card, it seems to be the sweet spot of price/performance for nvidia. Given it is practically a GTX and given how much they went for only a few months ago (and still do) it is a steal. Especially as you'll have practically the same image quality as those on 8800s for much, much less.

Yes I would :)

Lots of people here on the forums have bought this card and been very satisfied.

MSI are a fairly big tech company - much bigger than the ones you named, I would wager. They're not really graphics cards specialists (probably better known for their motherboards), but it should be just as good as any other brand for build quality etc as it's really just a case of installing standard components around GPUs they recieve from nvidia.
