Which is quicker

I’d say the raptor for speed, but I’d rather have more space, especially as drives always end up smaller than advertised anyway.

The Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - (ST3250410AS) - the latest release, with 1 platter will be faster than a 36GB Raptor (16MB cache) (WD360ADFD) in Average read, but not in seek, so I would recommend you go for the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - far better value ofr money.

Here are 2 x 250GB Seagate Barracudas (ST3250410AS) in RAID0 - see last HDTach graph. :)

Rive got the Seagate 7200.10 250Gb 16Mb-Cache and the 36Gb raptor, just wanted to know whether the raptor was still quicker than most stuff out there.

Download a program like HD Tech or HD Tune and benchmark them both. Then you will see which one is fastest.
