Weirdly, just as everyone else seems to talk of going from the iPhone to some Android device or other, I'm half tempted to go the other way.
Don't get me wrong, I like Android, its my favourite Mobile OS. However, it always seems to me that the only version of Android that is anything like as slick and polished as iOS is Vanilla on the Pixel.
Naturally, this means my natural choice of phone to replace my SGS7E is the PXL2. However, the PXL2 does not appear to have dual lenses, or a headphone jack, and yet is rumoured to be going to cost just £50 less than the iPhone X (admittedly for 128Gb). So I would expect properly top drawer specs for that price, but it looks like we're to be disappointed.
As the owner of a Samsung, the phone has been pretty good, but is full of bloatware and sub-standard software implementations. It doesn't really run as fast as a phone of its specs should - we can blame TouchWiz for that I suspect. Ergo I wont be buying a new Samsung phone. Shame really as I think the current hardware looks stunning.
I would imagine the same complaints could probably be levelled towards LG which has a similar TouchWiz-esque interface.
I could I suppose look at a OnePlus phone which has a largely Vanilla OS, but having had one before, it was glitchy phone and their customer service left a hell of a lot to be desired.
I could have course buy a second hand PXL1 but why would I want to go sideways?
Whether I like to admit it or not, iOS is very streamlined, refined and smooth, and the phones feature ridiculously fast processors to go with its nimble OS resulting in a very very fast UX, and I think this sort of optimisation is under-rated in all honesty.
So yeah, I might consider going Apple for a while.
