In all honesty I don't mind spending a little bit extra for that security of purchasing a good quality lid. Is it worth trying to cheap it on something so important?

Mine's also over 10 years old, same as yours but it's the limited edition Mick Doohan one.

I've found that much of the padding doesn't offer much support & the foam in the top is breaking up. Hence why I'm looking for a new one.

I really like that AGV S4, Fireskull do you recommend them? Any idea what the sizing is like? I'm usually a 58 (medium).

I love the one that master skooter posted! Quick stupid question for you guys though, just started go karting and have to wear them, I went for a large and it fits but feels slopping if that makes sence, feels to heavy for my head? how snug and tight should they be once on?

I Wouldn't buy one that's tight around the forehead, you'll get headaches & it doesn't give much there. But also don't buy one that's obviously loose in that area too. Do the helmet strap up & try to roll it forward off of your head.

Try a few manufacturers & models to see which you find a good fit. Arai used to do models for different shaped heads, no idea if that's still the case?

Cheek pads do give a little, so snug there is good. Most decent manufacturers offer different thickness cheek pads if it's too loose.

Obviously a heavy helmet is less comfortable than a lighter one, just try loads until you find one you find really comfortable.

black helmets are terrible for visibility. think about the riders you in your mirror, see when youre driving; i normally notice the colourful ones. Black leather and black helmet looks the dogs ****** but could make you roadsmear.

I've never really held with that. My lid and clothing are grey/black, but my bike's a gert big blue thing with a massive flouro yellow/orange stripe running down it, and I ride with my lights on all the time, so I reckon I'll be ok.

The first thing I see of bikes in the mirrors is always the lights, not the rider.

I tried on of those on, it was quite comfy but it's quite 'snubbed' at the front and I found my chin basically pressed against the chinbar. It's one to try on, I reckon. I have the same trouble with Roof lids, they're not deep enough front to back for my slightly pointy chin

Since I got my Shoei, my old Lazer and my dad's AGV (which is the same helmet as the Lazer, just branded differently) just feel really *****. They're all safe enough imo, provided you're not buying total cheap tat, but as you spend a little more money the difference in comfort is unbelievable. My Shoei is I think the cheapest Shoei you can get, but it's so comfy I can happily wear it for hours and hours with no discomfort, not like my Lazer.

Yep Recommend them Highly, best thing to do is pop down to Hein Gericke they stock AGV's and give the S4 and Stealth a go
As Mohinder said below depending on your head shape your chin can be close to the front of the lid, but ive tested it even without hiding behind the fairing at high speed it dosent push into your face, the lid is also really light.
Im a Small in the AGV helmets lol was a medium in my old Arai but that was 4 years old and had lost all padding lol and could turn my head waaay to much inside it dread to think what my head would look like if i came off with that lid
With the agv's they either fit well or they dont fit at all.

I had a Shark RSR and had a big crash with it on too.Highside , banged my head quite hard and lid was totalled but I came out with only a broken hand. Very comfy and light.
I now have a RSX and that is also nice and light and comfy too.
