As title.. Which MMO ... other than WoW would you recommend that's currently available?

The list that comes to mind is as follows:

  • Pirates of the Burning Sea
  • Vanguard
  • Lord of the Rings Online

SWG veteran so anything remotely similar would be best, if possible.

Warhammer Online looks to be the 'win' but unfortunately it's yet to be released.

Thanks

Well out of the 3 listed there, I guess I would say LOTR.

If it were me though, I would just wait it out for a few more months and go with either Age of Conan or Warhammer Online. Whichever one turns out to be the better suited to you. Not much point in getting into a new MMO, only to drop it in a few months for AOC/Warhammer imo

Vanguard was an excelent idea very poorly implemented, the graphics should have been great they wernt they were buggy as hell. the servers were empty the game just didnt work. Its what nearly 12 month old and it feels like a newly relesed MMO with all the bugs that brings. The game has some diehard players who have put up with the problems and say that there is a good game hiding in there, i am yet to be convinced.

Lotro is pretty good, major wow rip off in the way it works and interface etc.

Subduing the urge to bite....

Ah, thats better.

Go for LOTRO. It will probably die out after AoC and Warhammer come out, but its a has a far better community than WoW. Its not better than WoW, just different.

Pirate's is a terrible game and feels sloppy and as though it should be free!

Lotro is pretty cool but it didnt give me the "come back and play me" that WOW gave me during the trial.

and Vanguard... not played.

D&D Online can be fun in short bursts.
Eve Online if has a very impressive world its massive compared to any other MMORP over 40,000 online at once per world. Makes a WoW server look tiny.

Wow, I agree with you for once, partly because you're actually stating a fact rather than making your opinion fact. ;)

Out of interest why not WoW?

LOTRO is the only one of those I've played and it is very good, but at the mo I just haven't got time to justify spending the money on th monthly sub.

LOTRO for me, went back to it myself after the end game and high level stuff was padded out. They release new stuff for it on a regular basis too which always contains a decent ammount of content.

Only thing wrong about Eve-Online is...
Don't expect too much from the battles they ain't that exciting imo...
You could be sitting around for hours or flying around for hours (bored) and log out having not done very much, if anything...
It can end up feeling like a graphical IRC client at times

The game is very slow paced.

I've played since 2004, this isn't a flame before the Eve-Online bandwagon starts moaning. Obviously not always like that, or i wouldn't still be playing.
Truth for the win ;)

If yir wanting player interaction and something to relate to then wait for Warhammer or AoC, they might be good...

What are you on about!?

No other game has got my adrenaline going like EVE PvP. There is a real sense of loss when you die, unlike WoW "Oh crap, I died, lets walk back to my corpse". Time after time my hands are frantically shaking, after 3 years.

I am not the only one that thinks this way.

WoW? Im more of a UO Vet... WoW doesnt even come into it :P

UO was adrenaline pumping, Eve is made in a way the pvp is more relaxed and not as much twitch reflex more of pointy clicky.
