Afternoon all, I need a NAS drive to backup my digital photos and music and to enable me to view/listen to them from my laptop around the house. I've got a Netgear DG834G so I should be able to access the files over the Wi-Fi right?

Any recommendations on which ones to go for and which to avoid? As for capacity, 250-500Gb should be plenty.

Cheers.

Hope this helps

I have been using Synology as my NAS Drive, I am now on my 2nd one the first one was IDE sold this and I now have Synology 107+ see the link below (SATA)

To answer your question in regards to using a NAS for photo applications, the Synology will allow you to set up a Photo server and you then set user names and password for friends and family to log onto the NAS over the internet. When you go to My Computer you will see another drive letter so you can create folders within this and then paste your Photo's into the correct folders. You also set which folder each of your friends or family can see against their user name. So you as admin see all Photo's but if you have private photos then other will not see them even though they are in the server.

The Synology is more than a NAS I feel offers better value in the long term, I use it for the Photo sation and also to allow downloads to continue even though the PC has been turned off. Though to make this clear it does not come with a hard drive you buy the unit and then fit any size of hard drive. I have added a link to the Synology forum so you can use this as a guide.
