This may seem a silly question and I most likely, already know the answer but which of the following would be best for performance?

2x Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache RAID0

or

2x WD Caviar SE16 500GB 16MB SATA-II Raid0

The reason I ask is that the WD has a higher RPM compared to the Seagate but as you can see the Seagate has a higher Cache.. Also, windows performance index gives the 2x WD Drives a higher score :s

I would say the Seagate drives would offer better performance.....

Many thanks in advance,

Shane

Hi mate :)

It's hard to say but I would choose the seagates because they have double the cache rate and more capacity.

The Windows Index is flawed and you shouldn't pay too much attention to it.

the 2xWD drives would be faster because they can do more iops thanks to faster access times.

seagate depending if they are the 1tb platter drives can manage higher sustained transfer rates.

for general OS use the WD drives will be quicker, hence why the experience index score is higher. its not just based on sustained transfer rates.

Many thanks, the Seagate drives are both 1TB Drives...

Seems strange that the WD HDD offer better performance when they must be a few years old now...

So, should I use the WD Drives for my O/S even though the Seagate are 1TB Drives?

Sorry guys...

Well if these are the new seagate's then I would go for them since they are substantially faster in sustained reads/writes, there was a forum post saying two of them in raid on sata 3 was getting 347 MB/s read, that's better than the last generation of SSD's lol.

Check again M4's have 500Mb/s read speeds ;)

The Seagates are SATA-II not SATA-III, do you still recommend I use the Seagates or the WD?

Sorry for all these questions which must make you think 'WTF' LoL

I do appreciate all your help, many thanks in advance... :D
