I am looking at getting an external 4 TB HDD to plug into my router for multiple pcs to access the storage and to keep backups on.
I have found these 2 in the links above, I believe the WD ones are meant to be more reliable and this model has a sleep mode which would be better I suppose if I intent to leave it plugged in all the time.
What do you think or is there a better option
Thanks

I'd buy the WD because: 1. It's cheaper 2. I tend to buy WD drives anyway

You may find that using the router as a NAS is horrible from a performance point-of-view.

Yes you are right the routers usb port is very slow, so thats no use.

I have been looking at the WD 4TB My Cloud which looks ok for multiple pcs to save files to, I can't quite see if it will just show up in Explorer on each pc to just use as an extra storage or if I have to have software loaded on each. I like the feature of being able to access files from elsewhere and for sharing files with relatives etc.

Or are there any recommendations for something else that doesn't cost a fortune
