Which OS do you prefer?

Thanks, I needed something to do on my week off :p

Motorola do seem pretty good with that; I hope that won't change with the acquisition by Lenovo. Dad has a Moto G and it looks to be pretty good for the price, if I didn't feel it was a step down hardware wise (mostly the feel of the thing), I would have considered one. If I end up sending this back, might just pick one up cheaply when my One S finally bites the bullet.

I know what you mean about the Google services. Luckily I've kept my Google usage to a minimum, dipping in and out now and then so it's not a biggie. HERE maps is good enough that I can rely on that and the rest of my stuff is on Skydrive/Outlook.com anyway. And Now is just creepy. Good, but creepy!

Had a Samsung Omnia 7 running Wp7 and loved the whole WP interface. Everything felt nicely integrated, and easy to get to grips with. What ruined it was it being a Samsung device, something I will never have again. It went faulty several times, and they once sent it back as an 8GB phone... which was quite remarkable as I sent them a 16GB phone. So I loved the OS, just hated the hardware.

When I finally got fed up of that going faulty, I bought an iPhone 4s. I already had two iPads, so I was already familiar with iOS. I liked the OS on a tablet, but I hated it on a phone. So after three months, I sold it. Everything is slick and fluid on iOS, it just all feels a bit too clinical.

When that went, I bought the Motorola RAZRi, which is an Android phone. I care very little for the customisation aspect of Android, and even less for the ties with Google. As a result, I use a fake Google ID across most of their services. I never really have more than about 15 apps on any device I own, so the size of the app store has never been an issue. I wouldn't trust most Android developers with a barge pole, so my apps are generally confined to reputable developers.

I do like the ability of just being able to connect an Android device to my PC, and to be able to drag and drop anything on or off the phone. I also like the SD card support. Not because I use a lot of memory, but just because you are given the option to expand if required. I consider fixed size memory devices archaic, given the demands of today's users.

I also have an Xperia Tablet Z (also Android), and whilst the device is quite disappointing (because Sony keep f'king about with the features ), the ability to drop in a 64GB SD card full of videos is perfect for my requirements. £399 + £24 for 80GB of storage (16GB internal + 64GB external), is much cheaper than equally specced alternative tablets.

When my Motorola packs in though, I think I'll be going back to WP, because my phone demands are minimal compared to my tablet demands. I just want a nice interface and OS integration, and WP did that perfectly for me. I also like the native Office support in WP.

It's worth having a hands on with all the OS versions though, to get a proper feel of how they all work. We can only give opinions based on our own usage and preferences, which could be very different to yours. Just be wary that most phone shops seem intent on driving people away from WP, so don't be dissuaded by someone who doesn't understand the OS properly.

I have been on iOS now for over 5 years, since I got an iPhone 3G. While I loved its ease of use and thought it was like the best thing ever these thoughts changed recently.

I ditched my iphone for a Lumia 930 which runs Windows Phone 8.1.

Took a bit of getting used to but now I think its great, things seem to just work a bit better than features in iOS and I actually really like Live Tiles, they make for a much nicer desktop.
Yeah the AppStore isnt as great, but I think that will get better in time so can live with it.

Wasn't going to touch Android for my phone though, I have seen first hand how ad infested that OS can get, thats the last thing I want of my phone.

Android for me due to its customization and variety of phones. I can make my phone my own. Also like the larger screen that is on the majority of high end phones and the endless options and specs.

I have to say though, ios is very smooth, for the times ive used it, it has been very fluid and never felt slow even on older models but it just looks terrible to me and there is also no choice in what handset you have unless you count buying an older model as an option and the phones are generally more expensive.

I'm indecisive and keep switching from ios to android (with little bouts of windows phone).

When I'm using an android phone I miss the polish and smoothness of IOS, when I have an iphone I miss the customisation of android.

To be honest I think Android is in a better position, as smoothness can be incorporated (as long as manufacturers help with optimising their bloat i.e samsung touchwiz)

Whereas IOS will NEVER have the customization or flexibility of Android due to Apple wanting to lock everything down.

Pretty much spot on for me as well.

ios is a bit girly for me, i prefer the android way, but it has to be stock android.

aps are better regulated and polished on ios, but would never consider an iphone at current size, maybe if the rumours are true we will see a bigger more manly device from apple.

no real experience of windows phones

also iphones are so common and every chav has one :D #justsaying

Android but only because everything works with it. I prefer windows to osx for the same reason. Once wp gets the full support I will be purchasing a Nokia. I like to drag and drop files onto my phone so ios is no good for me. That said if you are happy to use the apple formats for media etc I can see why you would use one. I use a lot of flac so its not for me.

Blackberry 10. As a productive multitasking OS, it beats everything imo.

This, just so fluid and smooth.

I do have a S5 with Android and i like it but for me its just a plaything...its nice to tinker around with it now and again.

Android.

Used to be iOS but it's so closed it annoys me.

Echo that.

Had a mixture of iOS and Android over the years. Biggest gripe with iOS is that "you're having it this way" or nothing.

I adore the flexibility of Android, it's my device & I can have it how I want to, personalisation right.

If you don't like something, you can change it instantly. You can't do that on iOS without a ball ache.

I'd like to try a Windows phone but the screenshots always put me off, i just don't like the look of it but will reserve judgement for when I have a play with one in the future.

Blackberry, simply NO for me. Horrible device to look at and use.

iOS - couldn't do it, I've never seen it as cutting edge and I don't buy things based on being 'trendy'

I use android (moto g) but have to say it's getting annoying having to get 'workarounds' so I can use the phone how I 'need' to use it...just because Google wants us all to use their web only programs... that's just not going to happen in my case.

My phone is used for business (sole trader) use too and I use outlook (like many other businesses) to access my email (IMAP), manage contacts and calendars etc.
I can't manage google calendars with outlook 2010, I can read it but that's not very useful and Google have discontinued their calendar sync app unless you pay for their apps for business, which is pointless duplication of programs when I have better office software already..... so I have to sync outlook with hotmail and use my hotmail account for calendars (not all bad as I use windows 8) then access that on my phone instead. It might be customizable but it can't half be a pita sometimes

Contacts can still be synced for now using a sync tool.

Honestly I'm getting close to changing to windows phone... less hassle with getting things to just work. Next time I 'reset' my phone I'm going to see if I can just use hotmail for everything lol.

Tablets, 7 inch probably android, anything above I'd pick windows 8.1 x86/x64

I havent used iOS on phones, only on Ipad. I prefer android, just for the ability to move files around willy nilly. Root browser just makes moving things to SD a doddle. Really enjoy the customisation also.
