Which OS to get?

Im building a dual core AMD system using the AMD X2 4000+ and was wandering what OS yo use on the system. :confused:

Not quite sure what you're wanting to get from this thread but from what you've said simply expect the 'Windows XP' answer.

I'd splash for WinXP Home.
If you can justify the extra features of WinXP Pro. for the extra cash then that would be the obvious choice.

Something around those lines.

Say away from 64bit XP anyways, it really isn't as good as you expect... Infact it's awful.

Anyway, recommend Windows Media Center Edition 2005 - same as XP Professional but with added 'flavour'

Sorry about not being specific there Im planning to mainly use my pc for gaming and am also going to 'try' to overclock it. The reason I dont know what OS to use is because Im not very knowledgeable about the different microsoft OS out there, if i could id slap on windows 2000 worked well on my laptop but i think there gradually going to stop supporting it

. I was thinking about xp home but then i heard xp pro was better but i dont know if its worth it for basic networking and gaming on the internet with CS etc. I also heard about the beta vista thats came out and was wandering if it was worth trying to use that, would there be problems with drivers for this? :confused:

Go for XP Home.

And don't bother with Vista yet.

Agreed, you'd see no advantage using Pro unless you have a really sophisticated home network.

Stick with XP Home.

64bit linux desktop isn't an easy life (and I know, running Gentoo on my home workstation), I'd suggest 32bit if that's the road you're going down.

oh yeah, some sexxeh hardware powered flashing dos prompt action lol.

you can then run some of the classic games such as duke nukem 3d and wolfenstein 3d lol.

I should have said in my opinion. I would have rather had Windows 98 than 64bit XP it sucked so bad when I had it.
