Which PC Games are considered "nex-gen"?

I took a look at crysis's graphics other day,

they still look damn good, I'm a little disappointed as I expected graphics to be further along really....

Considering when crysis came out it was leaps and bounds ahead of any game.

if you mod crysis to its best, it still holds its own against games released today and looks a lot better than a lot of current games too, which is so sad imo

even if you don't mod crysis it looks better than most games today & its 8 years old

Indeed. It is the consoles that have held the PC back, both Crysis 2 & 3 were developed to work on inferior hardware, and every game is now. True PC only games don't exist anymore outside of sims.

Really want to see the PC blow away the PS4 and X1, then 4K is the only way, those consoles will never have the power to release triple A 4K games.

There are no nextgen games on PC, including witcher 3. It's consoles that push the limit. Only there you can see projects that blow your mind. The last next gen game on pc was Crysis 1.

That makes no sense. If the PS5 is the "true" next generation, then you cannot use that term for PS4.

PS4 is the current generation, you can't call it next if it's in use right now.
The English language is full of words and terms that can mean different things in different context.

Yes, it does make sense. If I say that I bought a next-gen console, would you assume I bought a PS5? No, of course not. You'd know exactly what I was talking about, wouldn't you?

Language is not all about strict and literal terminology.

I cant even turn The Witcher 3 all the way to max settings on my GTX970 at 1080p.

No I wouldn't because they aren't out.

The PS4 was next generation when it was in development, however people wrongly kept calling it that after it's release which is incorrect.

What are you going to call the PS5? Next-next-gen?

PSN2 obviously

Though I see PC gaming as evolution, not generational steps,

When the PS5 actually gets announced or gets some heavy rumors, I'll call that 'next-gen'.

Until then, everybody knows exactly what somebody means when they say 'next gen'. This is how language works. So long as I, and millions of others, call something 'next gen' and people know what we're referring to, it is *correct* phrasing.

No amount of your asinine literal pedantry will change that, sorry. Get over it. Next-gen = XB1/PS4. Just the way it is. You cant argue your way out of it. The best you can do is say it means something different to you, but you cant change the way language works for everybody else, I'm afraid.

Millions of people also say brought instead of bought.

And how about the whole their/theyre/there debacle.

Millions can be wrong, especially when the thread title refers to it as 'nex-gen'.

It isnt next gen if its current gen.

Its just a buzz word created by the industry and used to basically describe a game that has very good graphics and/or gameplay but its primarily to do with graphics.

To say a game is next gen would imply its coming out on the PS5 or XB2 (?) but of course this is not the case, not for quite a few years yet. It may also be used to describe how a game employs new graphical features or techniques to achieve a better looking game. For example, (IMO!) Driveclub on the PS4 looks 'next gen', aka it looks awesome. Whereas Forza 6 does not. Side by side Driveclub blows F6 out the water and sometimes its quite interesting to think how the dev managed to squeeze such an amazing looking game out of the PS4, it shows what the consoles are capable of in the right hands.

As for PC, from the current crop of games, 'next gen' could be Dying Light, Witcher 3, Crysis 4 or Mad Mad etc. However its hard to quantify as the beauty of PC allows for mods and resolutions much higher than a console can handle.

This isn't a mispelling or accidentally or ignorantly using the wrong word. 'Next gen' just means different things to different people or has different meaning in specific contexts.

There is no 'right' or 'wrong' here no matter how strongly you feel about it. Get over it.

It's no different to calling a crane fly a daddy long legs, sure, they might mean the crane fly, but that's not what they are calling it, they are wrong.

That is a factually incorrect statement.

Calling PS4/XB1 'next gen' isn't factually incorrect. There is no strict definition of that term. Entirely different situation.

This just isn't true.

Consoles dont hold PC gaming back anymore than people who still game on GTX670's or below, which make the majority of the PC gaming community.

Wait and see, 670s will be £50 in 3 years time and the PS4 and X1 will still be controlling the quality of games.

4K is what pushes the PC way higher then the current gen consoles, it'll be more affordable in 2 years time.
