Which PC Games are considered "nex-gen"?

Does next gen even really exist on PC? I always thought of it as constantly evolving. There's always new hardware on the horizon, new games, a choice of OS, resolutions, etc. The term next gen is more of a console thing I think, and PC is already well ahead of PS4 and XBone.

That is a factually incorrect statement.

Calling PS4/XB1 'next gen' isn't factually incorrect. There is no strict definition of that term. Entirely different situation.

Is it though? We're talking about generations, PS4 and XB1 are the within the current generation of gaming consoles. They're not the "Next Generation" to come. Unless your point of reference is in the past.

Next Gen is just a marketing hype nonsense, if you're playing it now it's current generation stuff.

Unfortunately the way games economics work today I think we may not see another Crysis on the PC platform for some time, doesn't appear to be too much money in pushing the boundaries that far.

This isn't a mispelling or accidentally or ignorantly using the wrong word.

That's exactly what it is

You're accidentally or ignorantly using the word "next" when in actual fact the correct word is "current".

next
nɛkst
adjective
adjective: next

coming immediately after the present one in order, rank, or space.
"the woman in the next room"

current
ˈkʌr(ə)nt
adjective

belonging to the present time; happening or being used or done now.

When the PS5 actually gets announced or gets some heavy rumors, I'll call that 'next-gen'.

Until then, everybody knows exactly what somebody means when they say 'next gen'. This is how language works. So long as I, and millions of others, call something 'next gen' and people know what we're referring to, it is *correct* phrasing.

No amount of your asinine literal pedantry will change that, sorry. Get over it. Next-gen = XB1/PS4. Just the way it is. You cant argue your way out of it. The best you can do is say it means something different to you, but you cant change the way language works for everybody else, I'm afraid.

So what do you call the PS3/xbox 360? Are they last gen? If so, then what happened to the current gen?

At what point does the "next gen" become the "current gen"? Is it after an arbitrary amount of time? Is it when the "next next gen" gets announced?

It's when you start changing the definitions of words that things start to get confusing.

PS4 and Xbone are "current gen", PS5 and Xbtwo are "next gen". You can carry on referring to PS4 and Xbone as "next gen" if you want. You'd be wrong, but there's nothing stopping you :p
