Which phone to get for 80quid

Alcatel one touch idol s, 4.7" 1280x720, 1.2ghz dual core snapdragon 400 with adreno 305, can be had for ~£80 brand new with (topcashback of £31.50) from ee.
Not sure about the camera, but i'm thinking of buying one as a backup phone.

Yup I've been looking at this as a potential temporary phone for my kids as they've both got need for a phone now but want Note 4's when they come out, if these are any good they might save nearly a grand at xmas by not buying Notes.

Not sure how things have changed for windows phone but I got the L520 for my mother a while back and it was very smooth but apps just didn't work properly. Skype for example would take forever to load, once it did load it was pretty sluggish, it takes 5seconds to resume the app for example. If I woke the screen during a call it would just get stuck on loading.

Switched too using Viber it was worse, it was just so slow and mostly unresponsive, tried Line and it was so slow e.g. I would call the L520 and it would take up to 10 seconds to register the phone call, using the L520 to call my Nexus 5 and it was instant.

L520 will be super smooth but outside of simple tasks it just struggles. If you can afford it I would go with a Moto G, got my mother one too replace the L520 and it was much better

I've ordered one this morning, but have been told they're awaiting stock, i'm happy to wait as i'll get the cashback instead of going into a store.

Got a new work phone tonight (Moto G) to replace my htc desire x, not bad but doesn't have DC-hsdpa, so not much use on 3 even if i wanted to buy one for myself as a spare/replacement for my XP, whilst i figure out how not to get angry with my Xperia SP because of the annoying rom bugs...

The idol s 2 is out now,but not yet in the UK.. 5" same res but quad core 1.3ghz.SO might be worth waiting for that?

^ I'll look into the ot idol s 2 and look out for your reports on the ot i s1, though the youngest has now smashed his Note 1 screen so just wants a Note 3 rather than wait for the 4, it's their money buying the phones I'm just the facilitator I'd be much happier if they had £80 phones :o:rolleyes:

Secondhand iPhone 4, anything new in that price range is better off in the bin tbh.

That's a really bad suggestion. The iPhone 4 is terribly slow nowadays.

I would recommend either: the Moto G (I have used it so I can say it is good) or the Alcatel One Touch Idol S that has already been mentioned (however, I have not used this handset so I cannot say whether it performs well in the real word, but going by the specs, it should).

I had a little play on an Alcatel ot idol S in an ee shop earlier, quite impressed the screen was fine and the camera produced a nice snap inside the store the guy claimed that it was just android with no skin. Very slim and for the money apparently quite a good phone at first glance.

@ AlecR basic calls and good camera were the top criteria so the ip4 is still a good call.
