whats the cheapest you can get Pan AE900 for btw? Ive been quoted £975.......good bad or a p*** take?

please advise...
that price is very good.

i have seen it for £960, plus 15 delivery so £975. if yours includes delivery its pretty much cheapest you will get.

I tested the infocus in76 and the ae900 the other day. My main issue with the ae900 was that it was a bit pixelly, this is the main problem with LCD and I felt I couldn't live with it. I also found that the in76 was brighter, certainly more stylish and seemed to be an all round better solution. I was specifically worried about rainbow effect with the infocus but neither myself or the missus could see any(I believe the in76 has a 5x colour wheel so it shouldn't be present). Lastly I noticed a bit of light leakage from the ae900 which I wouldn't be too happy with.
So I'd certainly reccomend giving the in76 a try :) The package I was offered with screen and cables was £1500, I didn't ask about the ae900 as I wasn't happy with it's performance.

excuse my lateness.

One thing that either i missed or hasnt been said and usually is a BIG factor is the throw distance. Some models are better than others. Panasonic is good in this area with a short throw lense and id say equally as good is the Z4 or a somehow not much mentioned Hitachi 200 model.

Personally and being a AE700 owner since its launch (1800hrs+) i would suggest you consider the Z4 because of its 3 year warrenty (why wasnt this mentioned?) The quality between it the AE900 and Hitachi will all be pretty equal.

VB
This is LCDs weakness and i dont care what anyone says, they ALL will suffer from mild Vertical Banding particulary in light blue/grey skies but hey at this price its nit picking. DLP will suffer from rainbows, just test the opening scene of EP3 (according to AVF members)

Current Deals
Ive seen the Hitachi for £999 with fre 2nd bulb and the Z4 was available with a simular offer a while back but cant still confirm if valid.

Just my 2sugars

affordable 1080p lcd projectors are coming soon... :D

Now that's what I'm hanging fire for!

Got my the rest of my Home Cinema setup as I want it ready for the projector.

Wanted to go for a professional concealed install with drop down projector platform & a motorised screen to drop from a slit in the ceiling.

Man that's gonna cost me!

Which is why I wanna wait for an affordable 1080p projector to make the outlay worthwhile & to stave off needing any future upgrades.

Out of those PJ's mentioned, the Hitachi TX200 would be my vote, but I'd agee with the Panasonic AE900 and Sanyo Z4 comments..

I demo'd these together, and they where amazing..

In the end I went for the Z4, any difference in PQ was neglible, but
1. 3 Year warranty + Free Bulb voucher, the panny only came with 1 year's warranty (unless things have changed since January?)
2. Z4 has a motorised front cover, and access holes to the LCD panels and is supplied with a dust blower, so dust (which can be a complete PITA) is something you can deal with yourself
3. If being installed offset from the screen centre by a reasonable degree, the Z4 lens is sharper when lens shifted.
4. The Z4 seems to suffer with no/very little VB.

The Z4 is £1149 from reputable places, which is £200 more then the panny, but the 3 year warranty + free bulb is worth £500..

It's worth reading up on projector central etc, and avforums, as there are small differences between the projectors that may suit your usage....

also note that the Z5 will be out at the end of this year, no doubt with equivalents from Panasonic etc.

One thing about 1080p though, unless you have a massive screen you wont really notice it over 720p, reviews of a ruby on a 2M screen show you cant really see more detail, also the 2 grand bulb price on the Ruby is a bit off putting

reckon on 3 grand for the first mainstream 1080p projectors

I reckon anywhere from £2000 - £2500 could be the price, but who knows.
Do however expect all the main 720p models being discounted shortly around autumn time.

Disagree with the comment that 1080p doesnt show any more detail over 720p. Its WITH a big screen like a projector that you should notice the difference, ok further back and from a smaller LCD screen id say it wouldnt be as noticable. This is one debate going around over the Sony X series 46" or upcomming 40" model. Some people feel the 40" will be too small or their seating too far back and you wont gain the benifit.

Its not just the detail though, having a PC desktop in full 1920x1080 resolution just pees over 1360x768. General usage, apps and entertainment will all benifit. Digital photos in particular will look awesome.
