which router?

just says no internet access on the tool bar, trouble shooting says there may be a cable unplugged but i tried swapping to a normal cable and no diffrence, and it works on the old netgear, so im no stumped to why it wont just connect

i would sugest a remote assistance with teamplayer but as i have not connection thats impossible!

Router lights are all green and web panal says connected, i dont understand why it wont work! Im hijacking my mates wifi next door to try and solve this

So its connected, can you ping out to an address on the internet? say bbc.co.uk? if not try and ping 212.58.224.138

Try and use the ping tool on the router to do this, if you get a response, try and run the ping on your PC/Laptop?

no in cmd but yes in router ping part, im fed up now, it aint straight forward or atleast workable. i know it works as it was used before. any way heres so screen shoots ive put together to hopefully see what the problem is, main thing i see this the chap, but that usserly means user name but ive got it set as no username and password needed. any how please tell me if there is something wrong

CHAP authentication failed, check all your ADSL credentials from your ISP, also check to make sure router is obtaining IP from the ISP automatically unless you have a static IP, therefore give the routers WAN settings an IP address and the relevant subnet mask.

youve lost me. i only know a little!!!

how can i do the above

i got my old netgear back on now shall i show ipconfig for that?

On top of what DJMK4 said, if you're with Sky you do need a username and password and Sky won't give it to you. You'll need to extract it from the router or there's apparently a website that can generate them.

I didnt realise you were with sky, your going to have to obtain your adsl username/password somehow. Then put them in to your new routers WAN settings.

interesting. so any ideas on the website that could do so, or how to get it from the router?

Try the guide I sent you a second ago, that will get your adsl credentials off your old router (assuming its a netgear?)

i did it another way round and this is what i got!!

Log on to the router, you should be able to backup the config file through one of the screens, save it to your desktop, open it up. See what it says.

Unfortunatly I cannot test it with mine as im with BE who dont require an ADSL username/password.
