I used to love sci-fi when I was younger. X-files, Space above and beyond, Dark Skies (mmmmm Megan Ward), Quantum Leap etc.

However the X-Files was probably the last sci series I watched fully when it was originally on, which I a long time ago now. I dont even know why I stopped watching sci-fi really. :(

Im going pick up some Battlestar Galactica to start with but what else have missed out over the years ?

Firefly is a must. If you like X-Files then Millenium is also a must-see. Fringe is good, but I don't agree it is better than the X-Files..it is more X-Files lite than anything else.

If you haven't watched firefly then that should be number 1 on your list, it is astonishingly good. Other shows you might want to get are farscape, Babylon 5, and Stargate. Although those shows can be a little marmite with some people.

Loved those shows. Have the entire B5 set. On the other hand, didn't think a lot of Battlestar Galactica, although I watched the whole series. As with a lot of American shows, there's too much religious guff in it ... and I'm sorry, but Starbuck is NOT a woman! :P

As mentioned Babylon 5, don't let the first series put you off it gets much better.

Star gate
Star Trek DS9

+1 for Millennium but be warned, it was cancelled so the ending isn't very satisfying but it's still well worth checking out... same goes for Sliders.

A friend of mine said the same, until I explained to him that Season 1 sets up LOTS of stories for the rest of the show. Then I lent him the box set to prove it. Funnily enough he looked a bit sheepish when he brought the discs back :)

A lot of recent sci fi stuff has been canned leaving them unfinished - very very annoying.

New V series
4400
The Event
Flash Forward
Terranova

etc etc

Kinda makes it hard to invest time in a series when you have that glaring thought there will be no ending.

Falling Skies has picked up massively in the second season, I see good things ahead for S3.

Yeah thats been pretty decent so far, still dont like the American release schedule though. Episode, episode, delay of random amount of weeks, episode, episode, delay ....

Falling Skies was ok this season though, 10 episodes and there was only a single week break about midway through. Awesome finale :)

Stargate SG1. Never took itself too seriously, but still hit all the right buttons.

The 'new' BSG drifted in to grim soap opera after a while, and the final season will send you in to full marmite mode.

Babylon 5 is another one to wade through. Though the value of every after the half way point of the 4th season is questionable.

But, if you haven't watched TNG, then that's the first stop. I insist. :D
