which SFIV character do you use?

... so:

• get in a "good number" of first attacks
• use someone who has already completed the arcade mode
• get 2 perfects
• get 2 ultra finishes

is it just me or does that seem like a really convoluted way to unlock a character? how on earth would you ever find that out on your own?

You're confusing Akuma with Gouken, to unlock Akuma all you have to do is complete the game with any character after unlocking Sakura, Dan, Cammy, Fei Long, Gen and Rose. If you put it on single round matches (the quickest way to do it) you will need 1 perfect and don't use any continues.
Akuma will challenge you after you defeat Seth, beat him and you're good.

If you want Gouken then after getting Akuma complete the game and get a perfect, 5 first attacks and 3 Ultra finishes with no continues (again this is assuming 1 round matches) and he'll challenge you after you beat Seth.

you still need ultra finishes and first attacks to get akuma....

Gouken can only be unlocked after completing the game with akuma at least once.

I unlocked Akuma lastnight and I'm pretty sure I didn't do an ultra finish. All I made sure was that I got two perfects and didn't use a continue.

1. Akuma: After unlocking Sakura Kasugano, Dan Hibiki, Cammy White, Fei Long, Gen, and Rose. First finish the arcade mode (on any difficulty) with any character, in this case use that same character for this second or later playthrough. Then fight Akuma on arcade mode, to do that get: at least 1 perfect round on 1-round matches (or 2 perfects on 3-round matches / 3 perfects on 5-round matches / 4 perfects on 7-round matches) including the last battle against Seth. No ultra combo finishes needed. But you can’t lose any matches/rounds nor use a continue when you die. Beating Akuma will unlock him.

So basically, to unlock him quickly, set it to easiest, 1 round match, select a character you have already completed the game with, get one perfect then complete the game without using a continue.

only 2 characters i know the moves for and liked playing as : Ryu and Fei Long. I need to unlock Fei Long by completing it with Abel..yay.

After giving each character a quick bash - seems to me that quite a few of them have specials that are "defensive" and not easy to do on the fly. ie they are slow charge up moves.

quited liked that clown wrestler fellow. Although tbh i fear that SF IV action is just too fast for me. Feels about 10x faster than Tekken.

I've always been a Ken/Ryu fan, and Akuma in later games.

In SF4, I prefer Ken, but I'd really like to get good with Guile and Gouken.

I enjoy cammy but I tend to play many characters :/ (ken, sagat, bison, sakura, fei long)

Dhalsim was my favourite in 2 but I really don't like his ultra and have gone off him.
Been trying to play abel a little as I think he has good potential.

Back in the olden days of SF2 Champion Edition and the Super SF2 on Daniel's department store arcade machines in Windsor, I used to use Ryu and Vega.

But more recently with HD Remix I moved to having Honda as my main and Balrog as backup.

In SF4 Balrog is now my main with either Blanka, Ryu, Akuma or possibly Sagat as backup.

I normally use ken or ryu :)

Depends on how I am playing and who I am playing as ken sometimes ends up being too aggressive and ryu has a nice ultra.

Sakura is pretty funny to play as aswell.

I need to buy/make a fight stick tho as I can't do some of the combos and keep missing stuff or doing ultras instead of normal moves as the PS3 pad has double tap'd it :(

yay unlocked Fei Long :D cant beaet Abel though he was my nemesis with Ryu as well...every time i within arms reach he does his tornado throw hrmm

If you really want to unlock all the characters, it is easily done on the Easiest setting by just heavy kicking your way through the game.

You can get all but the one who needs certain criteria (forgotten which one that was now) that way.
