But surely if you thought Smells Like Teen Spirit was good when you first heard it then its still good now even though your musical taste as moved on ?
Its not bad, but I'm in a completely different place.

What you're saying doesn't make sense at all to me.

Slipknot's second album...I still whack it on every year or so...

It has it's moments like Wait and Bleed...

Aye that Slipknot album isnt too bad i've got a signed copy knocking around somewhere.

One that i always forget about would be Tracy Chapman - Fast car or Indi Arie - Good man

Have to say I agree with Gilly, especially about the grunge stuff. Myself and pretty much the whole of my generation totally idolised bands like Nirvana, and while I can look back and appreciate the merits of the music, and even enjoy listening to it occasionally. I cannot recall what it was that made me obsessed with it, to the extent where I would happily listen every day for months :o

Elevator Suite - Back Around (no-one has ever heard of this either!)

I have I have! An absolutely amazing album..every track is excellent..perfect for chilling out to. My gf introduced me to them a few years ago and can't believe they only released the one album.

EDIT - A few choices of my own:

REO Speedwagon - Keep on Loving You
Kenny Loggins - Danny's Song
Eagle Eye Cherry - Save Tonight
Ugly Kid Joe - Busy Bee
Staind - It's been a while
Roni Size - Brown Paper Bag
Radiohead - Creep
Phil Collins - Against All Odds

That'll do for now..have quite an eclectic music taste so could be here all day :)

ooh yeah forgot about that, wait and bleed and eyeless for me.

My daughter (15) is currently going through my collection. I'm sitting listening to Shot By Both Sides - Magazine (which would be my entry in this thread), Purple Haze, Raw Power - Iggy and the Stooges, Joan Jett, The Ramones and The Stranglers most nights :)

Anybody who says "I've grown out of them" is a complete dipstick to me.

You jest surely? So your music taste hasn't evolved for about 30 years? If it hasn't, well fair enough but I don't know that it is a good thing. My favourite songs change on near enough a daily basis. If I had to listen to 5 songs forevermore I'd struggle to link those 5 songs and I think most people would be the same. :)

Of course its evolved but if Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Northern Soul, Motown etc were what I was listening to in 1970 then I still like it.
I don't see any reason why I should turn my back on such things because I've found a new music to listen to.

I met an old friend last week and in the 80's we used to swop a lot of American style hair rock with each other. I asked him if he still listened to rock and his words were "I've grown out of that now, I listen to stuff like Keane and Radiohead". What a plonker.

Going by this thread some of you must have to chuck out loads of records when you find the next artist to listen to. When I got married at 22 I had 3000 vinyl albums which went across every genre except jazz. I could pull out any of those 3000 and still enjoy it.

My musical taste evolves by adding to it and not subtracting.

I can see where both camps are coming from. There's lots of stuff I used to listen to which I can put on now and still really enjoy, but there's some stuff in my CD collection where the only sensible response is "Why?!" (The Corrs for example :))

Just had a quick rummage through the shoe box of CD singles under the bed and amongst the dust bunnies and dross (Dog Eat Dog :o Englands Irie  ) were some gems.

Menswear - Stardust
Symposium - Fairweather Friend
Len - Steal My Sunshine
Ash - Kung Fu AND Angel Interceptor
Silversun - Lava
Third Eye Blind - Semi Charmed Life
Echobelly - King of the Kerb
3 Colours Red - Beautiful Day

Foo Fighters - Everlong. (1997)

Ok, so I'm younger than most..

Ooooh, CrazyTown - Butterfly. Remember that from Yr 5 :o. I'm guessing 2001ish maybe before.
