Which sport car 10-12K max?

They're cheap and look it. I've said this already no thanks.

Considering you're having to borrow the money to buy this car, maybe cheap is what you need. The MX5 and S2000 are excellent sports cars for the money, and both are japanese with a reputation for reliability. No fancy high pressure fuel injection systems or turbochargers to go wrong either....

Yours Sincerely, the chairman of the "Champagne Taste and Beer Money" club.

I could EASILY afford to buy it outright cash so please do not assume to know my situation. I'd rather not lose 12K from my bank balance just like that. Another reason I would like to finance it is because my dad owns a garage and I can get a special deal where i'm paying back hardly any interest so i'd rather just see it come out of my monthly wage than have my savings take a nosedive for a car. Anyways i'm guessing 10,000 - 12,000 miles as i've had my Juke since mid October and that's on about 4,500 miles. I'm really liking the 3 series coupe at the moment.

Badly if its a 57 plate or newer with the direct injection engines but not that bad for the 56 and 07 ones though these are noticeably more thirsty.

If it has less than 60k miles the BMW warranty is very very good and only about 40 quid a month.

God the costs do mount up don't they. Good thing i've got time i'd rather just get a warranty with the car i'd purchase rather than worry. Least I know what i'll be in for costs wise a month and no nasty surprises.

I just got a 09 civic type r after trying every car I could find for 11k I went for this, just love the sound, have replaced the wheels and air box. Well happy with it, only problem is the GF needs a sports Bra every time she uses it.. :) also cheap to run..

Nice selection.
I am torn between:
MX5 MK2.5
S2000
350Z

But at present its a mute point, Saving. :o
Just how bad is the 350Z with fuel, 20MPG at best?

@ OP look at the MX5, there cheap, fast an look great.

Only times I see less that 20mpg is constant town driving and after a proper good hoon. Per tank I average around 25mpg with a mixture of town, motorway and a good hoon every so often and I don't even drive economically.

After reading the whole thread, I've concluded that the Audi TT mk2 with the 2.0T/maybe 3.2 V6 would be the right choice. Seeing as you like the looks, interior etc. :)

Would the OP really get insured on a S2000 for less than £1k? :o

You've read the whole thread, obviously read his numerous posts about how he's concerned about fuel economy on something like a 350Z and then concluded he needs the 3.2 V6 TT? :p They drink like a fish! :p

My 23 year old friend got a quote of £918 for one last night. He has 5 years no claims and he doesn't live in a particularly nice area so it's perfectly reasonable that a 27 year old with potentially a greater level of NCB can get a sub 1k quote.

I don't know...depends, how big a fish we talking? :p

And about the S2000, I thought I've read that people say how high insurance costs are - equal to that of a super car. May be I am thinking of something else then... :o

They are strangely high, and higher than basically everything else in its class. Couple with that the expense of the S2000 compared to alternative cars and they are often seen as unviable. I'm a motors noob though, so feel free to ignore me.

Thats not bad. So around 350 miles, if I drove sensibly.
I really would fancy the V6. Hmmm
Thanks for the info, food for thought.

It is an 04 plate aswell so featuring the GEN1 VQ35 DE engine.

The later GEN3 HR engine improved economy slightly due to a higher rev limit.

I only have 1 years NCB and live in a good area. S2000 £1,600 no thanks. I don't want one anyways I've already stated that :)

Right guys I've compiled a list of the cars I want in order of what I want the most to the least. Realistically I think I'll either end up with a Z4 or 3 series coupe as the other two will most likely be out of budget if I have to consider keeping cash aside for potential problems.

Mercedes Benz C Class Sport (Would like 18" Alloys, leather seats)
New shape Audi TT
New shape 3 series coupe (M Sport)
Z4 (M Sport post facelift 2006 model)
A4 Cabriolet
Nissan 350z (High spec)

I'm pretty neutral on the A4 Cabriolet and 350Z. I'd personally enjoy the 350Z a lot more but fuel costs aside I think it's seen as a bit chavvy! And with the A4 I guess it's a bit bland? But comfortable no doubt and 4 good sized seats for others to enjoy my car along with me.

How bad is a 350Z on fuel? 7K car I could easily afford. I'm not sure wether to go all out get a newer shape car that I want or save the money and go for something older like a 350Z.

350Z HR engine

Around town I average 19 over a tank. (brim and mileage method) admittedly I drive most places in 2nd gear.

When I throw in longer runs it pushes high 20s.

One of my mates had a 350z and he barely got 20mpg out of it. It did go like stink though :D

Still love my Z4 2.5 litre nearly 2 years after buying it. It's fun to drive, reliable and reasonable on insurance and fuel. I think I average 30mpg in it, and that's mostly short trips to work.
