So, I happen to have fallen accross a few SSD's recently, I currently have Crucial M4 256GB, a Crucial M4 128GB and a OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD.

Currently, I simply have Windows installed on one of the M4's.

And all my games (gaming PC) on a 1TB mechanical HDD (7,200 rpm).

I don't know what configuration to run now... I was thinking Windows on the 120GB OCZ as this has better read and write speeds.

And then the other 2 M4's for my games... It will be a pain, as their write speeds are cack compared to the OCZ but their reads are roughly the same.

Make your smallest drive the OS one.

Write speeds might be cack on the other two but I thought imo read was a LOT more important when running games.

id pick the crucial 128gb for os and the 256gb for storage, the ocz id keep for any backups or a spare seeing as it will be the least reliable out those three

I imagine so yea...

So the OCZ for OS and then the 256 and 128 M4's for games?

Will it be worth selling the 2 M4's and getting a 500GB?

no the 128 m4 for os,the 256 m4 for games and me personally id sell the ocz

they have poor reliability

if you need the space then sell and go for a 512gb mx100

it might last ages/years but I wouldn't take a chance on it tbh

crucial/Samsung/intel you can depend on

Sooo,

Sell the OCZ and the 128 M4

Keep the 256GB M4 for os and buy 500GB (I was thinking of the Samsung evo 840) for games...

If you want to do that, then sure, 256GB is too small for a steam drive anyway.

Although you REALLY don't need anything bigger than 128gb for the OS.

if you want

you could sell just the ocz and buy another 256drive ?

atm the mx100 range is best value for money, the bigger the drive the faster the speeds, but evo is good aswell, the laptop kit is cheaper than the desktop kit atm with the evo's (same drive)

Thennnnnnn, sell the 256 M4, 120 OCZ and keep the smaller M4 for the OS? Which oddly has **** write speeds?

just keep what you have

128gb m4 for os,256gb m4 for storage/games

and sell the ocz for a 256gb evo or mx100

Would not recommend 256gb for games.

I only have a handful installed. They eat up dem memory.

I have a handful and yea, they take up a chunk on my 1TB. I once had over 700 gigs worth on my steam alone... Nevermind the other platforms!!! I'm now much more restrictive with my self and try to keep it below 300.

what motherboard you have? if z68 onwards you can use an ssd to cache your 1tb hdd

so you would need to set to raid mode in bios, install windows on the m4 128gb and install the intel rapid storage drivers then use the ocz ssd to cache (speedup) the 1tb hdd

use the 256gb ssd for any other games you have

that way youll have 1tb hdd space and ssd speeds using it

Sadly not, I can't buy without selling. On a tighttttt budget.

Selling both in members market. Going to get a 500GB SSD for games, then keep my 1TB mechanical for music and stuff.

have you checked the speed of the 256 compared to the 128 crucial? I thought there was a difference (slower speeds with the 128 - but don't quote me - check the reviews or actual test).

If so I would ...

make 256 = OS and as much games as I could put on there, 128 for perhaps my steam folder and the vertex hmmm no idea :)

I just unhooked up my 256 crucial (was using it as my OS/games) worked Great! needed more room so gave the drive to parents and now using a mx100 512.

Personally I would use the 256 for OS + Programs..Reason. If you are like Thousands of others out there and install ALL your Micro Rubbish Updates you'll need 256. Honestly.
I got a 128 that is great, alas it's filling up rapidly with these Stupid Updates...I think that by Xmas I'll need a 256 or go back to a 500GB normal..
