Which Universal Remote?

Damn you all with your flashy gadgets and unmissable discounts - that's £69 I'll never see again - I suppose I'll forgive you when it arrives next week though and I'm overcome by all that bling and shiny :D

Yes and emailing logitech now and then to change certain settings which you can't change yourself.

They are very quick though at sorting things out. Like I just brought a panasonic plasma and needed a longer "power on" for the TV and they sorted that within 8 hours from email.

Oh and you WILL want this web site for your pretty buttons:

*plus you can make your own icons, just get any photo and resize it to 74x44 pizels

I'm moist!

My own remote tweaker!:cool::D

i dunno what the big deal is with the Harmony 1000, i can operate it with one hand and i don't have huge hands.

it's a good remote if you get a good one and not a duffer like my first unit (my 2nd unit has a different PID number and works a lot faster) but of course the 1100 should be slightly faster again.

i think Logitech screwed the pooch on the original H1000 and have changed the hardware on newer models.....on the sly of course.

Harmony One if you want a good remote that's easy to use.

Harmony 1100 if you want to show off (and prepared to have to use 2 hands, and fork out about ~£300) :D

the remote itself & the hard buttons on the 1000/1100 have a real quality feel to them, you're not just paying for the touch screen .....it's a very nice piece of kit both to look at and use and the increased spacing around the hard buttons make it more practical than traditional remotes where the buttons are all very cramped. i went from an 885 which is very similar to the harmony one to the 1000 and the layout makes it so much better for me personally especially when using the HTPC ....even the missus who is very fussy loves it so that says a lot.

the harmony one whilst good for the price does feel quite a bit plasticky in comparison but if you're a numbnuts who can't operate a touchscreen with one hand and don't like using 2 then you're probably better off with the plastic remote :p and of course it's a bit cheaper than a 1000 for obvious reasons.

i just got a 555 but i think i'd like to use it with my computer. What kind of ir receiver do i need to do that? Also, can i use it with media player classic?

sweet done - almost 100% happy.

just PS3 was a bit of a hastle being bluetooth
-> not possible to turn on and off with remote since IR can't do it.
-> few functions are also not possible: eject, subtitles, angles, audio, slow foward and back (they are available thru options/triangle button but not directly via 1 button)

anyway as good as it is gonna get, so overall pleased using 1 remote and having to move my lazy rear to insert bluray/dvd and pwr on/off ps3 -> gotta teach the dog some new tricks ;)

How did you get the PS3 working with a harmony one ? ps3 is bluetooth and harmony one IR ? Im interested.

Also this angle button on DVD players, I have never yet known anything to have a use for it ? anyone shed any light on that ?

you need an IR usb dongle for the PS3, i used logic3 one. set up isn't as easy as it could be, but after couple of attempts got it to work

Lunarwolf, can you link me to such a item please. I am interested as soon to be buying a PS3 and would like to use the harmony one with it.

thank you

can't put competitor links, so google "logic3 PS916" costs less than a tenner - actual remote is poor, but you just use the IR dongle and set it up w/ Harmony

I realise that, thanks for that. Looking at it now.

Does it actually turn the PS3 on/off though ?

mmm may get one of those. Although looking at the remote, there is not many commands on it. But it should be ok.
