Guys, following on from my previous thread ( http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18203226 ), having now decided I am going to go for a Yongnuo flash, which one do I go for as there are so many to choose from

There is the 460, 460II, 465, 467, 468 and 560, all of which are in my price bracket, but which would be best for me?

I have a Canon 350d and would likely be always using it on camera.

Thanks a lot :)

then go for the 465. Its the best mix of value and power.

the 465, 467 and 468 have ttl, so stick you camera in manual and the flash will sort the exposure for you (within reason).

I use one regularly. DO you self a favour and get a set of eneloops for it, i cant stress enough how much more usable they make the flash.

Thanks, the 465 was kind of top of my list, but I don't know anywhere near enough to be sure if it was right.

Re: eneloops, I have some 7******* ready to use NIMH, I take it these are much the same?

Just for the record, I#ve just got a 460II, amazing...is all I can say. not tried any of the others though

Thanks again guys, looks like it's going to be a 465 and some Eneloops then :)

EDIT - Adam, do you have any links to testing online? Would be interested to read it

Yup 465 for eTTL unless you want off camera flash in which case the 460 II is also fantastic.

I've read review as well. Eneloops seem to be highly rated but there are also good alternatives. See here.

After owning several YN flashes I would recommend either the 460II as they are pretty much as powerful as my Canon 580exii or the 468 as it's manual and TTL. Maybe also a 560 as another option for a manual flash, but it's more expensive than the 460ii and isn't as powerful, but has better light spread.

I also converted a few of my 460ii's into barebulbs (420-J's), and they were awesome in softboxes / umbrellas

As for batteries, some eneloops will work fine or some high capacity alternatives.

Below was a video of the prototype I did of my first attempt at conversion testing 'durability'.

If you search 420-J over at POTN, you will find a thread I started. Unfortunately I didn't make a guide, but there were a few copy cat's who had a go.

Thanks a lot for all the info Ejiz. So you would suggest the 468 then as I want TTL?

Yes I would, it's slightly less powerful than the 460II but it's the best compromise if you want TTL, as it would also be good in 'manual' off camera if you ever fancy going down that route, and if you do you can always pickup a cheap 460ii for using multiple light sources.

Thanks again :)

My head is pickled trying to understand a lot of this, but from what I can make out, it would be as follows (from best to worst)...

460II (no TTL)
560 (no TTL)
468 (TTL)
465 (TTL)

Is that about right?

my advice - by the 465 to start with - its as cheap and if you dont like it then sell it on the bay of e for the same as you bought it.

If the Op got the 465 he probably won't like it, when he sells it he will lose on postage and fee if he can even sell it for what he got it for.

Op, the 468 is the best choice for you, if you can't afford it yet, then my advice would be to wait and save up, as it's worth the extra £20.

Sorry to kidnap this a little but can anyone recommend a similar gun for an Olympus e-300?

Having read your linked thread in the op, I would say the YN465 is your best option within £50 budget. What exactly will you be using it for environment-wise?
