Which Yongnuo flash to choose?

If it has e-TTL and Zoom then it can be auto when the head is pointing forwards or manual but only manual zoom when it's pointing in any other direction. It defaults to 35mm when in this situation.

Thanks again guys, think I will stick with my charger for now, and maybe look at one of the better ones sometime in the future.

i dunno - the 468 is crude in its zoom implementation (it assumes full frame and makes no compensation for a 1.6x sensor. strobe is very useful..... you end up with a 465 with pointless extras

Well, thanks again guys, my 468 and 2 sets of Vapex Tech 2300 ready to use batteries turned up today :)

Looks like a really nice piece of kit, now I just need to figure out how to use it properly!

I take it I don't have to do anything with my camera, just plug the flash on and set the flash to TTL, then fire away? Thats what I have done so far and it seems to be working fine, but I just wanted to check. I couldn't see anything in the 350d menus to set/adjust, but maybe I missed it.

I have a lot to learn, but will enjoy it. I just plan to take lots of photos with the flash in various directions, and with/without the diffuser/reflector and just see what works well.

That said though, are there any tips that would be useful to know?

Oh also @Khaaan!, just to add that it seems to auto zoom whether it's pointing forward or not. I have seen the LCD screen indicate that it is zooming even when pointed straight towards the ceiling. Whether it is actually zooming I don't know, but it is certainly indicating that it is. (Camera in full manual mode)

That's pretty good if it indeed zooming but keep an eye on it, if you can feel and hear it zooming as you zoom the lens then it's all good, you can adjust the zoom manually at any time though in any mode but for it to zoom with the lens as you zoom the lens afaik it would need to be pointing forwards?

I could definately hear it doing something as I zoomed the kit lens, and as I said, I could see the LCD screen indicating that it was moving. I think it initially showed 35mm, then 50mm, and the flash was definately pointing up towards the ceiling at this time.

Will double check it tomorrow when I get more time.

That's good news then!

Very tempted to get one myself now at this kind of price!

It definately does zoom when pointing towards the ceiling, as I have just tried it again now.

With the kit lens it zooms 24>35>50. Sometimes you need to half press the shutter button for it to zoom after moving the lens (seems to only happen if it has been sitting inactive for a while), but it definately zooms, as you can clearly hear it doing so. :)

EDIT - and for what it's worth, the one I got seems to be the latest model, with the metal base plate on the flash foot, see here... http://speedlights.net/2011/01/08/yn-460-ii-yn-560-now-with-metal-foot/

I tried to get a couple Yongnuo's off FITP, but he's no longer selling! If it's allowed, could you tell me where you bought yours?

True but they are a proper uk business who provide a 12 month warranty, and very quick delivery times too
