Which Yongnuo flash to choose?

This is going to sound completely stupid but bare in mind this is new territory for me, I usually photograph landscapes in good light so flash photography is something I have practically no experience of. What is the difference between manual and non-manual flashguns? Do wireless triggers really have that much of an advantage and what is the use behind the umbrella? Is there any other way to trigger these flashes using the D3100 or is it only via hotshoe and wireless triggers?

EDIT:
"Bounce: Without Bounce"
Does this mean there is no bounce card on the 467?

Manual vs ETTL is pretty much the difference between the camera sending metering info through the lens to the flash so the flash can decide what power to output for the most optimum exposure depending on what you (or the camera) is metering off). In ETTL mode the flash head will also zoom with the lens if the flash supports this feature.

On Manual flash guns you have to do all that yourself. It's not a major issue if you're used to flash photography but for people who don't want to pre-test shots to make sure they've chosen the right power and zoom levels it's probably not the most efficient I guess but it does teach you a bit about how output power and zoom on the flashgun work together with your exposure settings!

You can still use ETTL guns in manual mode though. I'm using my YN-560 more than the Canon 430EX, for example as I love the stick on > adjust power > shoot :D

Umbrellas are good for use in areas where bouncing off a wall or ceiling is not possible, also for use outdoors when shooting portraits or objects where you want fill in flash or use creative lighting (cars at dusk, for example) - In these situations you'd also want wireless triggers unless your flashgun(s) support optical slave mode in which case you'd need a flashgun attached to the body that triggers the others when it goes off.

I guess that's the basics of it :p

What's the difference between the 465 and 467? Specs look the same to me.

http://speedlights.net/2010/11/29/yongnuo-guide-numbers-and-flash-comparison/

Zoom function, slave modes. 467 start from £50 imported, the 465 is £10 less. 467 is Nikon only (468 being the equivalent Canon version) iirc.

I have just been doing some browsing myself. I think I am going to dive in and get the 467 for my D90. I'll sleep on it but might even get it from a UK seller (£63 delivered) for piece of mind. I am still a bit confused by speedlights but then again, it was the same before I got a DSLR and I had to buy my D40 first to make me invest time to learn about it. Hoping it will be the same with the speedlight.

/edit: or maybe just the 465 for £41 delivered from China as it's no big loss if it goes wrong...hmmm decisions...

I made an enquiry with a UK Ebay seller, and disappointingly, they told me that any returns of Yongnuo flashes under warranty have to be made to the manufacturer in China. If that's the case, then surely, I may as well just order one from abroad!

Also, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the contract, even on BIN items, with the seller?

Ordered a YN-465 in the end from HK. Anyone got a spare stoffen-type diffuser they want to get rid of for a few £ before I order one? Could have done with the 2 last night as I went to a party and ended up taking some rather shiny faced photos with the onboard flash.
