Whining Noise from Engine Bay

That's so awesome. I love supercharging things. I wish there was a kit available for the ST220. I'd be all over it if it wasn't stupid money.
 
Bit of an update for the car so I figured I'd stick in here rather a new thread or the BMW owners thread.

I managed to get hold of a 2nd hand Eisenmann quad exit exhaust rear section for a very good price so I have had the "old" custom fabricated system removed and replaced. Looking to sell this really.

I also took the opportunity to get rid of the center box (which had been put in with the previous system) and had the 2nd pair of cats taken out - its now essentially straight through from the manifold to the rear section.

Verdict?

The Eisenmann system is grin inducing all the way through the rev range :D The sound over stock is night and day and even the sound over the custom system I had on previously is a significant improvement. You can actually hear the I6 in (most of) its glory. The car is certainly more sporty sounding but even with the center silencer and 2nd cats removed, it's still very civil.

I still think the RRP is a bit high (the rear section quad exit alone is over £1k) but the quality is really excellent and at the price I got it for it was well worth doing. Should help significantly with future plans as it has freed up the exhaust gas flow.

Yes, it has been on the rollers and came out at just over 330bhp which was a little lower than I was expecting. I later found a small boost leak on one of the hoses (a couple of loose clamps, now fixed) which was a bit frustrating. I haven't had a re-run but it would obviously be a higher figure now.

At the time, the guys at the RR said it could do a bit more but the old exhaust was too restrictive (hence my decision to change and the Eisenmann came up conveniently). It just didn't seem able to handle the air the charger was pushing so they had to hold back on the run - the pipes were really screaming when being pushed.

I don't think I'm going to bother going back on the dyno till I've had the cams done and boost upped so I won't really know what difference the Eisenmann makes to the figures on its own.
 
How much did you pay for the Eisenmann back boxes?
They add absolutely zero bhp by themselves, but they might help your air flow.
Sounds brilliant too. I stuck one on my Z3 as soon as I got it and it was the best thing I ever did :p

I got the entire rear section for around £400 which was a bloody bargain. Second hand obviously but in v good condition. It should effectively owe me a lot less once the other exhaust is sold.

They definitely help the air flow - especially with the secondary cats and center box removed - the old exhaust's rear section was perfectly fine for NA but the pipework was narrower on the section exiting the rear silencer so was causing a reasonably significant bottleneck at higher rpms on boost.
 

Note: not gunning it from a cold start! Just taken when I'd got home from work.

Will do an on the road video at some point as soon as I have someone to hold the camera lol
 
I haven't noticed any drone so it can't be bad! You can hear the car more though (deeper sounding) - its more of a rumble than a constant noise though thanks to the I6. I did a section of motorway last night and didn't find myself annoyed by the sound at all.
