So I'm sat here, having a drink as you do when it suddenly dawned on me.

Glenfiddich tastes like toliet water (neat). I am very much a single malt man and Glenmorangie being my usual tipple... however someone bought me fiddich as a present so I thought I'd try it.... is it me (possibly just tonight or this bottle) or does it taste... odd?

Yeah I normally drink Glenfidditch when nothing else is available. But I don't mind it that much.

Right... It is starting to taste okay now, this fiddich, but that is as I've had about 25cl....

If you've got a little money to burn, try an 18yo Glenlivet or a 21yo Balvenie - this has been finished in a port wood cask and is divine. Pretty reasonable price at about £45 a bottle too.

Recommend one of those and I'll try it...

By the end of the bottle you will wonder what this thread was all about :D

I dunno... I'm convinced I'm gonna be tasting this in reverse...!

Might have to go and get something half decent from the cellar....

Although.. just one more tipple....

This is going to turn into a watch me get hammered thread isn't it.

Well I think I have admit defeat guys. It aint nice, although it has left me unsober....

Mental note made. Glenfiddich Special Reserve aged 12yrs (barcode no. 5010327307244 :D) is in my little black book of things to drink if you want to throw up.

I'm tempted to switch to beer to wash the taste away....

Definitely the 21yo Balvenie.

It is extremely smooth with hints of nuts and fruit and a tiny taste of toffee.

An excellently rounded whisky which should satisfy most whisky drinker's tastes - I love it.

Stan :)

Any idea from where? Asda doens't look like it has it...

Good whisky would be wasted if taken with ice. If you cool it too much, you dull the flavour and you may as well be drinking £10 a bottle blended whisky. The same goes for mixing with anything other than water - if you want to drink whisky with anything other than a little water (as mentioned above), for god's sake don't do it with malt - you're wasting your money - by all means mix blended whisky with coke or whatever you want but don't waste your money killing the flavour of malt whisky.

Stan :)

Bah. Neat or with water. Anything else is a crime.

Glenfiddich is not particularly good but is acceptable in an emergency.
Glenmorangie is slightly better but is what I class as a fall back whisky.

If you really like malt whisky, try something like 15yo Balvenie or 15yo Glenlivet - they are two widely available and not too expensive malts and are both very nice (the Balvenie is especially nice).

Morrisons actually do a range of cheapo malts, I tried the Islay version recently and quite liked it - they are pretty cheap and if the others are to the standard that the Islay was, they're good VFM.

If you've got a little money to burn, try an 18yo Glenlivet or a 21yo Balvenie - this has been finished in a port wood cask and is divine. Pretty reasonable price at about £45 a bottle too.

Mmmmmmmmmmm, Whisky ;)

Stan :)

Clap clap..

Just bought a bottle of Balvenie and one of Glenlivet... had a tipple of each. Both very nice. The Balvenie tastes like it costs an awful lot more than it does and the glenviet has a rather nice mellow taste... :)

For general drinking i've got an el cheapo bottle of bells which doesn't last long. Then for special occasions I have a bottle of Balvenie Double Wood, not sure how old it is but it's the one matured in two casks.

12 Yrs.

Balvenie doublewood is an excellent whisky and usually available from supermarkets (Tesco usually have it at least) - it's a whisky I buy regularly. As jdickerson says, it does taste much more expensive than it actually is - quality

Stan :)

Got it from Tesco earlier! £22 or something daftly cheap.... I however am more impressed with the Glenlivet at the moment... v. v. smooth.

I've just finished the last of my Glenlivet a minute ago - it's another one I buy regularly :)

Think I'll polish off the last couple of drams of the Glenmorangie Port Wood now, then it's off to the shops for more tomorrow :D

Stan :)

I am seriously impressed with this Glenlivet... it slides down....! I am concerned the bottle may not last...

To the OP: I find Glenfiddich whiskies in general to be very bland. Don't get me wrong, it isn't bad whisky by all means - the 18 year old is actually quite nice, I find - but the basic Glenfiddich taste does nothing for me, as it may not for you.

I don't find i tbland... I find it harsh an undrinkable (unless you drink more.. then it gets okay :D)

Not really a spirits drinker, but this whole thread has given me the strong urge to buy me a bottle of Balvenie Doublewood...

I'm trusting you guys on this! I'm a student so I can't normally justify spending 20+ quid on alcohol unless it is in 24 can crate form lol.

SiriusB

I'm gonna recommend the Glenlivet... I've drunk a lot tonight.. is VERY smooth....

I do fear it. I'd be petrified if someone offered me JD when I asked for a whisky. ;)

Has anyone ever noticed that if you've been on the strong stuff, it's really easy to put away 40% stuff when you go back? I'm on the Cardhu at the moment, and it's going down deceptively easily.

What you mean?

What I have noticed through drinking a lot of whisky is that vodka and beer just do not get me drunk anymore....? (Rum does, as does port incidently)
