White Macbook turning beige :(

I'm confused now, you said that T-Cut would ruin the laptop a few posts ago?

Not sure why you're confused. I've explained how T-Cut is a cutting compound and not a finishing product. What I've posted proves what I've said. The people who have used T-Cut needed another product to make the plastic look as it should.

It is finishing product that leaves finish shiny and smooth. It might be really bad idea on some paintwork, but after all - it's place in auto industry is exactly as that - finishing product to make your paintwork shiny in smooth 5 minutes before you flog the car to some punter. And no, you don't need wax on a laptop either. :D I used cheap, basic, halfords rubbing compound and it does job on white macbook brilliantly too. If anything, it leaves the surface smoother and shinier as it removes all those tiny surface scratches from rubbing against every day objects.

No it doesn't. T-Cut leaves the finish (paint) open to the elements and unprotected. Reading any car detailing guide states the very same. It will leave the surface smooth but it's designed for paint not plastic. Especially plastic that's been formed with an almost perfectly smooth/shiney finish. The comment about using it 5 minutes before selling a car is fine if you want to clean it up quickly but once it's rained/weathered the finish will be dull.

T-Cut has NEVER been a finishing product. When I say finishing I mean it's a product used initially not to finish the process, like with a wax on paint. It's the average Joe's cutting compound. Cutting compounds are not finishing products.

Everyone's an expert so do whatever you think works. Hopefully anyone who uses T-Cut wont trash their laptop. My original reply suggested using a non-abrasive cleaner, which has NO drawback. If it doesn't work you've not damaged anything.

Would be nice to see a laptop that's been T-Cut, just to see how much better than factory standard it is.

I'm not 100% on this but I believe that to only be the palm rests :)

Ah yeah I think that's what I'm on about.. my palm rests have gone and I have cracking too. The jokers at Apple Meadowhall told me up to 5 days to fix it - 5 days to replace a top cover?! Once I can be bothered I'll be badgering that down. It ought to be a take it in and come back to pick it up same day kind of job.

I agree, I'm sure it isn't a very large job and I highly doubt they have a huge waiting list of people with cracked and discoloured palm rests! :p

On a similar topic I've noted that my Macbook is starting to feel a little less sturdy than it did several months ago. When the lid is closed the screen seems to wobble a little, as if there's a screw loose. Also when I pick the Macbook up you can hear the plastic pieces clicking, and it's not as if I'm even picking it up with a hugely strong grip! :(

By the way, I've tried using the toothpaste today that was mentioned further up the page. Surprisingly, it worked a charm! :) Although I did have a problem taking some of the keys out and not being able to get them back in again! But all is well now. Thanks everyone. :)

and i t cut'd my battery cover just to prove it wouldnt leave scratches. then i took photos and realised they show and prove nothing at all so are pointless :p

gkad you got it sorted though killswitch :)
