I've had severe problems with getting a decent night's sleep for well over a year now and was wondering if anyone has tried using a White Noise machine/generator?

Do they work, and if so, could someone recommend one? :) I'm fed up with being knackered all the time so am willing to give anything a go :D

No medical discussion ta!

i find a rain and thunder mp3 relaxing.

Rain tapping on the window actually helps me to drift off but the problem is staying asleep. I think that a couple of years of doing on call is not helping either so I'm a probably subconsciously on edge even when not rota'd to do it :(

I'd rather leave everything in the room switched off, background light from the PC being on and the whirr of fans in the background won't help - I have what seems like crazily sensitive hearing and a fly farting will wake me up :D

I've used a white noise generator on my computer/laptop in the past and it did help although a lower frequency hiss was better for me.

don't drink any tea/caffeine after say 5pm, and no sugary snacks either

do some exercise or go for a run at say 9pm, have a shower, then try and read a book in bed -as opposed to playing an FPS, just before bed.

Audacity > Generate > White Noise

and whack it on an mp3 player or stereo? Or just put on a radio/tv channel that's not tuned in?

Pink Noise sounds much better though IMO :)

Although I think bledd's advice is the best.

Feek sent me an mp3 of some kind of thunderstorm/rain. It was at least 10 mins long. I don't know if I still have it, but I wonder if he does. That was awesome. I'd love it again if you're reading, mr Feek.
